Hello all,
The tension between gun owners and anti-gun owners over the past few days has escalated quite rapidly. The anti-gun people want to put an end to the killings that have happened lately and in the past few years by removing all "assault weapons" and magazines that hold more than ten rounds. I know that on this forum and many others, that there have been discussions on this topic. For this thread I want to focus on what happens if the gun bans and restrictions are passed.

This is just my opinion and you can agree or disagree, but please bear with me on what I am trying to say.

Our government has gone over the boundaries on many things. We pay taxes that are illegal for the government to make us pay, we are given a healthcare plan that most Americans didn't want, we spend money on things that are not necessary and go to war without permission from Congress. Those are just a few things that the government has overstepped its boundaries on; there are many more.

I am not blaming these issues on the current President, or on any one President in the past. The government has been progressively becoming more powerful, and straying away from the principles and foundations that have made this nation a beacon of freedom. It’s becoming one of the last “freedom holes” in this world.

Freedom is not protected by the government or the politicians. It is protected by the people and the blood of the people. Many people have paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep this country free because they believed in the constitution and the importance of freedom for their children and their children's children. The Founding Fathers gave us a tool for when all the talking fails we would have a last chance at protecting our freedom from tyranny. The firearm is the only thing that stands between the people and an oppressive government. Once that is gone there is nothing to keep evil men from taking our God given individual freedoms, such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the freedom of governing ourselves, making our own money, and to raise our kids the way we want to raise them. In my opinion the right to bear arms is the most important right we have, and it is the protector of all the other rights we were given.

There are two sides that people can take to this issue: one is banning guns, or the other is leaving guns as they are.

Today the recent poll was 52% for major gun restrictions and 48% against. (Remember, that was taken from the Communist News Network (CNN) website.) I think that if the law the President is proposing was passed there would be civil unrest or maybe outright revolt.

Let’s not forget how many revolutions have been started over far less than the banning of firearms. In my opinion if they are allowed to enforce the these restrictions, eventually they will ban all firearms in this country.

Thanks for reading, especially if you made it this far :D

I would like to hear everyone's opinion, and please vote on the poll!

It depends on how far they take this.

If they actually get approval for confiscation, civil unrest will no doubt occur.

We'll see civil disobedience either way, from both sides.

I hope so as well. I don't have much faith in most of the sheeple in this country but I know there are others like me (us?) who actually believe in freedom. ......Cold dead hands....need I say more? I hope enough people have the balls to do the same. As stated in your poll, there are far to many "politically correct" people now. It makes me sick.

This.

Especially in my state, I know a ton of sheep will fold if anything were to happen. You should see the stores in my area. Full retard over here.

The only way I could see it happening is if there were forced confiscations. Most gun owners have too much to lose and won't want to make the sacrifices required.

I don't know if MILD gun restrictions would cause civil unrest. Something like a complete ban of all firearms undoubtedly would though. It all started with the most caniving and deceiving president ever, Abraham Lincoln. We were all told that the civil war was about slavery. Utter lies. The civil war was the rise of the federal government to the main power. Before the civil war, the states had the power. However, when the southern states wanted to escape the confines of the federal government, the feds said no and decided they would fimprison the southern states through a brutal show of force. All this was swept under the rug to make people believe that they were "free". This is when the federal tyranny started and it will continue to go downhill every year until the federal government is overthrown and the states are put back into power. I have no plans on being involved in any sort of uprising. I have a family to provide for and a ranch to work. I hope that there will someday be a peaceful and calm way to work this out. That is my view on the subject and along with everyone else that has any common sense I will not be part of a socialist nation willingly. However, until I see an obvious, blatant, obnoxious show of power from the feds I'll continue my life as the mild mannered, lawful, Texan I am. If the guns go, it will be the end of agriculture in America. That is fact and it scares me beyond belief, but we all have to keep a cool head and debate this as intelligently and calmly as possible.

Uh oh well, it's been 8 posts thus far and the mods haven't locked it. Seems to be the norm around this locale.

In any event keep voting R thinking its C (conservative) and get the same bucket of horse manure laws, deals, supercomittees

Just my $.0000000002 which is 2cents adjusted for inflation, monetzation of debt etc

Snakeman,
Great post and very true! There were a lot of people that saw the fatal flaws in a federal government during the writing of the Constitution and those issues were not resolved. That led to our second war for independence. A funny (and frustrating) read is ‘100 things to do till the revolution’. One of the chapters is called ~ ‘don’t be the person to fire the first shot in a revolution that doesn’t happen’. Good advice! ;)

To my way of thinking it would depend on the size of the step. They might actually get support for a small one but too much ground and that would end badly. Still for now it seems all posturing and smoke from both sides if the issue.:banghead: I was in on a conversation today---the people gathered around were saying the gun owners should compromise. I politely asked if they knew what compromise meant? Then stated if I was willing to give up some more rights as a firearms owner what would they be willing to give up in return. Dead silence and the 3 of them walked away. Just sayin.

Civil unrest is what happens in the inner cities.

A total Australia style "turn them in" gun ban, though highly unlikely, would result in civil war. As in states breaking from the union, and feds coming in to protect their property claims. It would be exceptionally ugly.

You know, I think about this a lot. At what point do you need to really step forward and defend your rights? (Rhetorical question for thought.) I have never sat and watched all of "The Patriot", but I get the idea the main actor didn't want to get involved until his family was dragged into it and he became personally "involved". The same with the movie "Shenandoah". They wanted to remain neutral in order to protect their loved ones, I guess you could say. I know a movie is not reality, but it gets you thinking about this issue.
It almost seems to me that each person has to draw the line for themselves. Maybe my opinion is all BS; don't pay too much attention. I'm just thinking out loud.

As a long time Militia member We have discussed this &none of us want one! The horrors of war are something most of us have seen & never want to see again! Especially here in this country! I would hope it never comes to that! No one in the militia group I belong to wants it eather! May Jehovah keep us & our Republic safe from that horror! As Militia we will protect the citizens & constitution of our Republic!

Thank you, MtCreek. This all rolls back to the issue of education. It's amazing how little the citizens of our own country know about the true history of it.

talk about loaded wording on those questions.

The stuff the Obama has talked about, no it would not cause unrest. It may (and should) lead to peaceful demonstrations. Anyone for a million gun march? How about a 'We are the 99.999% of law abiding gun owners.' But it would not lead to civil unrest like you mean.

It gets to the point of door to door confiscation, that probably would. That is not going to happen though.

Should there be "Civil Unrest." The worst thing to do would be to use guns. Terrible idea. Simply because the forces of authority at the time would seek to seize all of them. I know where the dirt is soft, I have access to fifty gallon drums, and if you don't get what I'm getting at, well too bad for you.

No the next civil war should not be fought with guns, nor should any civil unrest. Rather the system should be made to, or allowed to implode. The voices of the anti-American attitude silenced with the cruelest of gun-free violence.

The forces of liberty and freedom should largely remain unseen, those that do appear should be nothing more than talking heads. "We are anonymous." Let the opposition shriek and wale. Let the patriots smile and remain silent. The forces of liberty and freedom should act in groups no greater than three. There should be no central hierarchy. The opposition should fear its own neighbors, trash men, lawn care providers, and fellow restaraunturs.

Wouldn't that make a great idea for a book? You know because I'm only interested in this all from a fictitious stand point.

Snakeman, MtnCreek -

That implies there will be an initial breakdown by states. Do you think that is more likely than a breakdown across the whole of the country between pro and anti gunners, if things became that far gone and such a stand was ever to happen?

Anyone else care to expound on it?
