This is how the ad runs, the pictures look great.....He's asking $550

"This is a beautiful 1953r Russian SKS, unfired since it went through the Tula Arsenal factory. Absolutely all numbers matching, including extractor, gas tube and piston. This SKS would be almost like new if it not for the few handling marks it has.

I am sweetening this deal by adding 2 stripper clips and 100rds of FMJ. Great buy on a true Russian SKS!"

I was thinking of trading my practically new maybe 50 rounds through the barrel Gen 3 Glock 19 in box with two mags and holster. He wants to do the trade.

What do you think?

If you would rather have the SKS than the Glock then do the deal. A nice Russian SKS with 100 rounds of ammo are worth it in my book. 7.62 x 39 is easier to find than 9mm in my neck of the woods so you can shoot it right away.

Sounds OK to me. There are a lot more Glocks around than nice Russian SKS's for sale. Seems to me anyway.

I would definitely do that trade. One is much harder to find, and much more likely to climb in value...
Hint: its not the glock

Well I'm convinced! I'll do it. By the way, I have no money in the Glock. I won it in a Ducks Unlimited raffle.:D

Good trade.

IMO, the Russkies are the only Simonov carbines worth having. I have zero interest in chinese, Yugo, Romanian, etc., but my '53 Tula laminate is not going anywhere.

I'll give a counterpoint:

a) As to value, it seems a good deal. I sold an unissued Yugo SKS three years ago for $475. This would have been a fair deal then head-to-head, and value has not declined since then. So it's a decent price.

b) Do you really like shooting SKS's? If you do, great. Personally, I don't. There are many other guns that are more pleasant to shoot, with better designs. The magazine issue is one, and there are others. So if you don't love the SKS design, think about other neat semi-autos.

For example, I'd think setting aside $550 and waiting out the panic, then putting it towards an S&W M&P Sport when they are back in the market at clearing prices would be dollars better spent. When the SKS's were $99 each and ammo was 1/3 the cost of good .223/5.56, they had serious appeal. But at parity in ammo cost and escalating prices, the equation shifts.

Fair enough. But I will counter point that. You should never shoot a gun like that in the first place. That is a safe queen bought to be an investment. If you want an SKS to shoot buy one that is not all matching and in that condition. Also, he is trading a Glock, not some nice rifle or 1911 or something. Its a Glock! Dont get me wrong, I have a loaded Glock in my bedroom that would be my first gun to get to in my house. But its also one of the most replaceable guns on the planet. Its a no brainer. Just dont shoot it.

It would be bad not to make that trade. However if you don't I have a glock 34 I'll trade for it.

Don't the Albanians go for more?

Great trade! And since your only out maybe the cost of the raffle ticket for the Glock 19, this is definitely a win-win deal for you! I always kick myself for not picking up at least one SKS rifle back when they use to be way less expensive than they are now. Enjoy.
