Would you sell multiple guns for 1 dream gun?

A couple of years ago I had 60+ guns in my safes. Not anything special, but not junk either. I got tired of keeping up with multiple calibers and multiple guns that did the same thing. Over the last 2 years I've sold about a dozen and have 6 more sitting in my local shop on consignment. Since I purchased most used at good prices I've made a fair profit from all the sales.

I've kept anything with sentimental value, guns I've inherited, and the best of the rest. I actually bought a few much nicer guns and optics and have quite a bit of money left over.

No regrets, wish I'd done it sooner.

A few years ago, I traded 3 pistols for an M1a.

No remorse. There's plenty of replacements out there, if I've a mind to get them.

You could do whatever works best for you. If you're working, you'll always make more money. And with all the firearms available, you'll never be short of opportunities.

I can't answer this as it applies to guns. I have only purchased two, both shotguns. All my other firearms are from my late old man.

But I CAN answer this from the standpoint of GUITARS. I have owned well over 20 over the years, though I currently only own 4.

Would I sell two or more for one guitar? Yes. But it would have to be a very special guitar, specifically, a Brian May Red Special. However, I know that the depreciation on those fiddles is about 50% a year, and I would be lucky to get $200 for both of my Stratocasters. So...moot point. Better to just save up your money for the right moment.

I don't sell guns I like or want to keep to buy another gun. I would save up and buy later, grow the accumulation, and add some diversity. I couldn't afford to shoot a M1A very much even though I would love to have one.

I sure wouldn't, but then again, M1As don't make me all warm and fuzzy inside like they do for some folks. And that's okay. To each his own. Only you can answer the question. Like some others have posted though, I sure wouldn't want to be without a good sidearm on the nightstand. Just one feller's opinion.

Have fun with your property. I've discovered it's quite fun to sell and trade my firearms. The only ones that stay put are those I cannot replace here in CA due to past bans and restrictions. I run the youth program at a local gun club and enjoy letting the boys and girls try out my new stuff.

I would not sell any guns I currently own. I have bought and traded so many guns in my life, I don't even dare think of how much money I have lost. I don't think I have EVER traded or sold a gun and made any profit on it! NONE. ZERO. ZIP. NADA.

I got to the point in my life where I don't have an abundance of guns, but what I do have - I really enjoy and each one serves its own purpose. To be honest, I don't need any more guns, and I certainly don't need a really EXPENSIVE gun, just for the name, or because it has some gold on it, or for any other reason! I shoot all of my guns as a gun that is so fancy and/or so expensive to shoot, to me is a total waste. I don't have that luxury. If I did, I would have a Porsche in my garage and only take it out on nice days. Most everything I own serves a function. I own a lot of tools. To prevent rusting, the majority of them must be kept in a heated environment in the winter and a low-humidity environment all summer - so the majority of them are in my basement where my boiler heating system is located and where I run a dehumidifier all summer. During the winter, the main boiler headers and all the runs keep my basement about 70 degrees without having to turn up the basement thermostat - unless I am reloading. I like warm rooms in the winter, anything below 70 degrees feels EXTREMELY cold to me. Just two degrees more (72) and I am totally comfortable. Of course my wife likes the house cooler in the winter, so there is a constant battle over the thermostats!

Call me Crazy!

I'm going to cull my herd later this afternoon and see what I have I can swap for a new CZ-452 Varmint. I already have 5 .22 rifles and I need another like a hole in the head.

If the 1911 is a good one and shoots well I would hang on to it. If you like the AR and shoot it well I would keep it. Save up or sell somthing else to get the M1A.

M1As are highly over-rated. Especially the one that waxed me at my last match.....

..........................Just joking, guys !

An honest man. That has been my experience overall although I have technically made some money with some of my sales. But the vast majority, were a break even proposition at best. If you don't want them, get rid of them. IF you want them. Keep them. It is very simple really.

These days there aren't many dream guns as far as my personal likes go. If there is a dream gun for me, it would probably be priced 20K-40K minimum. Dreams are expensive.
