I have a bit of a dilemma. Since they came out, I've really wanted a Saiga 12. I've always put it off, and unfortunately the prices are quite a bit higher how, but I'm really starting to get the itch for a really 'fun' gun. I currently have a W. German Sig P226 9mm in excellent condition with less than 200 rounds through it, and I'm considering either selling it and buying a Saiga 12 or trading for one. As much as I love Sig guns, I shoot them like crap compared to my Glock, so when I can afford 9mm ammo the Sig usually stays home in favor of the G19. I think I probably keep the Sig's around for wrong reasons but I love to look at them, I love the action, I love the triggers, they're just beautiful guns. I'm really not sure what P226's are getting now days, or even if the W. German models are still more desirable and/or fetching a higher price. If and when I get a Saiga 12, I do plan on converting it. What would you do?

That's kinda the reason I have a hard time letting it go. I feel lucky that I found two W. German Sig's in such great condition (the P226 and a P220), and as long as I keep them I won't have to find two more for my collection down the road.

On the other hand, it bugs me not shooting them much, and I want something 'fun'.

Voted "Maybe." If I was in your position, yeah, I'd get rid of something I don't use in favor of something I will, collector value be damned. I only own firearms I'm willing to shoot on a regular basis.

In my own personal case, I'd stick with the SIG, because I already own a Saiga (not the 12), like SIGs, and don't have/won't own a Glock. But if I were in your position, I'd sell the gun I don't use/really enjoy, and get something I WOULD enjoy and use.

Saiga 12 is my favorite Shotgun and I dislike the Sig P-226, so my answer is yes by a long shot.

Those W. German police guns already have had hundreds of rounds through them from when they were in police service.
The OP just says he's only fired 200 rounds through it since HE got it.

These guns are a dime a dozen ( not sure where "highly sought after" came from, most vendors have stacks and stacks of 'em)

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: why are you still here typing into your personal confuser?

...as much as I love Sig guns, I shoot them like crap compared to my Glock,

That's one reason. No reason to "love" a gun, it can't love you back. If it does not do the job you bought it for, it won't get its feelings hurt if you get something else.

Next, what would you DO with the Saiga? (I ask because I have no use for a shotgun except trap, skeet, and home defense and have no interest in a Saiga.)

Yes, hell yes!

If you don't shoot your P226, and will shoot the S12, go for it.

I recently bought the 12, and it is the most fun I've had in a while. Bump-firing 10 12guage shells is quite an experience :)

In addition, with the Polychoke II you can shoot skeet/trap with the best of them. There are a lot of guys switching to the saiga for 3gun as well. Home defense? You can make the saiga an 8" SBS with 10 round mag, the ultimate HD weapon.

Besides, unless you have a specific reason to keep the P226 (heirloom or something), there's no point in owning a gun that you don't shoot. (My opinion)
