Would you trade if you were in my place ?

A friend of mine started pestering me to trade my G17 Gen 3 for his G26 Gen 3.

He bought it as a carry gun, it didn't work out, and now he wants a range gun that he could put a red dot on.

Both guns are in perfect condition - I never carried mine and neither did he ;) So as far as value goes, it's a fair trade. Mine has a flashlight on and is a range / HD gun. His is just collecting dust in the safe, as he seems to have an aversion to it. I did shoot it and it's fine.

I am kind of torn. I already have a G26 Gen 3. I really think if I could only have one Glock, it would be this one. I shoot it practically as well as G17, it is far better suited for carry, I could outfit the second one with a G17 mag and a grip spacer, get a new flashlight for it (my current one won't work as G26 has no attachment rail), and probably gain in functionality, overall. But I also have a feeling I would regret trading this G17. It's an iconic gun, a pleasure to shoot, and it's the first gun I ever bought.

So, any advantages to going with that trade ? My EDC is a LCP, so G26 doesn't get carried much lately anyway. If it was my main carry gun, I'd be far more interested in getting a backup.

I personally don't feel the need to have two of the same guns regarding this specific scenario.

I would keep the 17 or if you're really looking to get rid of it get something else that you don't already have that's not so common.

Thanks all. I wasn’t really inclined to do the trade, but was thinking perhaps there’s a benefit in it that I don’t see.

I would make the trade if I wasn't really attached to the 17 if you want to turn your second 26 into a project gun.

I would also make the trade if the 17 is completly useless to me (Other guns better suited to that roll) and simply want a back- up to your primary 26.

I wouldn't trade if I liked the 17 or used it really.

I see no benefit. If you had the opportunity to tade your 17 for a 19 maybe, but not one where you end up with 2 26's.

Strictly for a gun trade I would tend to agree with the others in general terms. I have almost no first hand experience with Glocks. As for doing the deed for a friend I might consider it even if there is no benefit or very little harm for me. It depends on the friend.

He'll survive :) He wants a Gen 3 because for some made up reasons he believes them to be more "Glockey" than 4 and 5, and he wants a very particular finish ("Teflon black") that my G17 has, because apparently it's "superior" to the dull gray that the later versions have (I really don't see much practical difference if any). He gets all excited about small things like a child. If he gets a minty Gen 3 G17 in gray finish, I may just trade my slide for his.

I would not. I really like the 26, do not care for the 17, but I don't need two.
