Anyone who has been around here for some time remembers when Remington changed the Remington HD 6+1 model to the one piece mag tube. I raised a fuss with them about this as that gun will not accept other Remington Barrels. I blasted their stupidity on the forums and stated it was a major mistake. Well, finally the realized it and in January of 2016 they brought it back as Model 81197. However, some no load admin puke who has probably never even fired a gun had it come out with Hardwood Sporting stocks. Yep, an 18.5" Barrel with a Remington LE 2 shot extension kit on with Hardwood Sport stocks and a forend that prevents you installing a side saddle shell carrier. Idiots.

Also this year they discontinued the 20 gauge version of the HD 6+1 that also came with an 18.5" Barrel and Remington two shot extension kit. Idiots.

I now buy the 81197 to build my custom guns on. I have discovered that since they discontinued the 20 gauge model they must have had a lot of the extended 20 gauge magazine springs left over from the discontinued model and guess what? Yep, that have been putting them in the 12ga 81197 Model. They may have ran out of them at last as the last ten I broke down had the correct 12ga extended Magazine spring. But, if you bought the 81197 you may want to make sure you have the correct Magazine Spring. If you do not them you can call Remington but I doubt the Cubical Clown will send you the correct spring. They will most likely require you to send in the entire gun. If that happens then wait an hour or so and call back and you might get a Customer Service Rep that knows about this and will simply send you the correct Spring. If not then here is the correct parts number so you can get one. Part -Magazine Spring EXT #F94645. Or, since you have to buy it get Part - Magazine Spring EXT Marine Mag #F97634 as they both cost $4.95 and the Marine is a better Spring.

I am attaching pictures of the 12ga against the 20 so you can see the difference. Well I guess I am not as they changed the forum and I can't post pictures. e-mail me at [email protected] and I will send you the pictures and if someone smarter then me (that means just about anyone) would e-mail me for the pictures and post them it would help some guys who got the wrong the magazine spring with their gun.

I don't play with the tactical version, but thanks for passing that information along. Always nice to know little tidbits like that.

Considering the cost of sample gun is <$400 the only thing I would object to is useless recoil pads they come with. They have consistency of piece of hard plastic. The only short slide wood from Remington is walnut which they put on wood stocked Police Magnums that cost >$600. Such short wood is not needed on gun available to general public because the gun isn't going to be mounted in Police cruiser nor do HD guns need side saddle.

I didn't see any problems with Remington offering single piece tube on dedicated HD models. Such guns could be sold for less than those with two piece two shot extension and be more inherently reliable because spring would not have chance to bind on tube-extension junction. Both Ithaca and Mossberg offer defensive gun with extended one piece tubes.

I would buy seven shot magazine spring (often called +2 extension spring) plus mushroom-shaped solid plastic follower from Midway or Brownells. I'm sure the spring is made by same company whomever one buys it form, but one really needs the follower and Brownells or Midway are more likely send you the correct parts.

What I'm saying is the new seven shot Remington needs solid magazine follower and what could actually be referred to as recoil pad not a bumper pad it comes with from the factory.
