I read that several months back. My confidence level for those type articles is the same as my faith in health advice given by copy and paste bloggers: none.

It's a pretty good list. There is gonna be a lot of people saying they forgot this and that, but all in all I think they did a good job. They got a lot of the classics right.

I appreciate the effort but -

Those click-farming links to "news" items wear me out. Having to click once for each item on the list, piling cookies and java clicks over and over again just slows the bejeepers outa my computer and I'm sure those of many members.

Might as well be a starlet's top 10 bikini shots spread over 11-12 different pages to boost their "clicked-on" numbers for advertisers.

Here you go Warp:

Glock 17
M1911 Colt
Sig P226
CZ-75
S&W Model 60
Browning Hi-power
S&W Model 29
Walther P38
Ruger MKII
S&W Model 41
Colt Woodsman
Colt 1873 Single Action Army
Beretta 92
S&W Model 10
Ruger Single Six Convertible

Agreed. One of the better "best" lists I've seen to date.

I feel pretty good. I have 13 of the 15 in my collection.

Haha! I thought the same thing! I don't have everything on the list but Christmas is right around the corner. I think I'll just email a link to this thread over to my wife...

Yep.

When I see an article like this, my first question is, "What criteria were used to rate the candidates?" Note these bozos don't list their criteria.

Pretty good list I think.

However, I also think the Colt 1851 Navy, or at least one of the Colt percussion revolvers should have been included.

They kinda started it all with repeating handguns, and were arguably the best revolver in the world at the time..

I don't think it is possible to write out definitive criteria that results in a list. There will be guns that fit the criteria not listed, guns listed that don't fit all of the criteria, or the criteria is going to include some kind of subjective/preference aspect that defeats the purpose of having criteria.

Now, if you would like to come up with criteria that results in a top ~15 list without the above problems I think that would make a great new thread and I would happily click the link to it in order to participate. :)

Of course it's possible.

Understand that criteria is subjective -- it's what the person making the list THINKS is important.

So this might work:

Number manufactured
General attitude of users (favorable/unfavorable)
Innovation
Time in service

And so on.

So what you are saying is the list will be 15 Glocks?

It is a decent list but I do not think the order is correct and I think they missed a few and had a few that should not be there. I fixed it for them.

What he said. Couldn't be bothered to click past the Glock 17.

Read as "Pictures of the first 15 pistols we could find and name correctly without doing any real research." My title was too long for them.
