Yesterday I sold off the first AR-15 I ever bought, an Armalite HB. The reason is I have others in my safe and I have two Rock River striped receivers that I want to build up. I would like to build an all RR rifle but don't really know where to get the uppers from and where to get the best deals.

What I'm looking for is a M4 "type" 16" flat top and a 18"/24" varmint.

I don't mind ordering online but don't really want to wait forever if you what I mean.

I live in Columbus, Ohio and don't really mind driving a little while to a gunstore.

Thanks for you help.

Another vote for Adco. Steve and Eric are awesome guys to deal with and have great prices. Spent alot of money there recently, and I'm more than pleased with their work and service.

I saw this at adco:

I'd hit it.

It's probably worth your time to browse the AR-15 discussion discussions at AR15.com (http://www.ar15.com). There's more information there than you could ever imagine and the folks there are pretty knowledgeable.

Before you buy anything, though, check the Feedback forum in the Equipment Exchange.

I'm a big AR15.com member, and building my own AR (first firearm!) this summer. Some tips:

Barrels- Go Bushmaster. All their barrels are chrome-lined and 4150 steel, and not very expensive.
Get Gov't or even superlight barrel profiles, there is no point to an HBAR barrel unless you are competing with it. It is just cheaper to manufacture HBARs so they are used a lot. Chrome-lining will extend barrel life tremendously, and in some cases even double it. Get chrome if you can.

Don't spend $120 fro a stripped lower. You can get a good Stag Arms lower for $79 delivered. They are of excellent quality, and they make receivers for a certain unnamed large supplier.

Same for the upper; there are deals to be had. I believe someone in the Equipment Echange on AR15 is selling complete CMT uppers for $89.

For the varminter, I can't help you. That's not exactly my field of expertise...
I'll let the varminters chime in.
