WV Pastor Murdered at Shooting Range - One of ours MarkMc753

I shoot at a public range in a wilderness refuge. It makes me very nervous when others show up. I think I will start taking pictures of them and their vehicles on arrival and send them to family members by cell phone - and tell the subject of those photos that I have.

I get the feeling that scumbags like we're talking about here wouldn't really be able to comprehend it anyway.

Probably better off to just stay armed and vigilant.

Sad news indeed. My thoughts go out to the family.

“The truest end of life, is to find the life that doesn't end.”

I did not know MarkMc753, however, I gather he will go on living through the positive interactions he made with the people who did know him. Peace be with him.

Enjoy eternity with the Lord, Reverend McCalla. :)

A very sad incident indeed.

I hope these criminals are executed.

This is a reminder to always carry a loaded sidearm at the range and be friendly, but cautious, around strangers when you have thousands of dollars in guns you've brought with you. Sounds like this was a robbery and murder.

from "Thanatopsis" by William Cullen Bryant...

So live, that when thy summons comes to join
The innumerable caravan which moves
To that mysterious realm, where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death,
Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,
Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave
Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch
About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.

Rest well, Pastor, and condolences to your family and friends.

Senseless violence is just that... senseless. Where these young men had the opportunity to be of service to their nation, they chose to be criminals. There is no justification or rationalization that can make their actions understandable. We can only hope that if they are found guilty, they will receive justice for their act.

This is a truly sad chapter in the history of mankind.

Maybe after the sentencing instead of wasting State electricity they can just let TFR line up and take turns shooting them '100 Days of Solitude' style?

Rest in peace. I hope the scumbags who did this are convicted and executed in a timely matter.

We have too many murderers alive. These guys? The punks who murdered Eve Carson? I could go on. We need to stop letting people who kill other people go.

Rest in peace pastor. My condolences to his family.

May justice be served to those cowards who took his life.

Therefore, however a believer dies, in suffering or in relative peace, it is but a transition to "face to face" with the LORD. Once that transition has been made, all of the sorrow and pain of the suffering will end. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away" (Revelation 21:4).

Rest in peace Reverend McCalla. God Bless those who looked to him for guidance, may they be guided themselves in this time of tragedy.

Really, the only lesson to be taken away from this is to go shooting in groups, and never ever go alone.

For all we know, one of the "soldiers" approached him, pretending to have a broken vehicle or some other problem - potentially an injured child, or some other emergency that would cause one to drop what they were doing and rush to help. The pastor, being the kind-hearted individual that he obviously was, went to help the man, and that's when the other probably struck from out of view (ie from behind).

You can be vigilant all you want, but a threat intending to rob a person they know to be armed is hardly likely to reveal itself until it has already struck. There was probably nothing he could have done to prevent this - he was dead the moment they arrived - he just didn't know it yet.

RIP, it's always terrible to see someone's life cut short by vermin, especially when they had so much more to offer the world. In a better world, they'd be the ones being rendered unto the earth, and he'd still be helping those who are in need.
