xd 357 to 9mm or 40s&w

I have an XD in 357 sig and id like to get a new barrel for it so I can shoot cheaper ammo at the range. I know a barrel for 40s&w would drop right in and the mags work. Ive also heard that 9mm will also work with just a barrel and mag change. Will 9mm actually work with nothing more than a barrel and mag swap? If so I would prefer to do that because it is much less expensive than the other two.

For 9mm you need a Conversion Barrel. It is not a standard 9mm barrel. It is specifically designed to change the caliber to 9mm from 40/357 Sig. The ones made by EFK work well, usually drop in without any fitting required, and are very very accurate.

Going to .40 requires only a .40 barrel, the mags are the same as .357 Sig. 9mm will need 9mm mags.

Thanks for the info. I was unsure if the ejector would work due to the smaller diameter cases.

here's a related question--does someone make conversion barrels for the subcompact models? I believe they only come in 40 and 9mm, does someone make a 357 sig barrel for them?

.357 sig is a .40 S&W case necked down to fit 9mm projectiles. The cases are identical in overall length and diameter, except for the neck.

I was referring to the difference between 9mm and 357 sig cases. I should have said that. My bad
