I added a Steamlight TLR-1 to my SPRINGFIELD XD 45 last week and shot the gun more accurate with the best grouping with that gun ever. Then today I shot the gun without it and was shooting worse than I had been before I added the Streamlight. What is the deal with that?

I suspect the extra weight up front is reducing muzzle flip/rise. Weighting the front end is an old competition trick that apparently works very well. So much so that the IDPA, wishing to stay stock and avoid "race guns" like in IPSC, will not even allow some pistols that have longer and/or thicker dust covers as factory standard in their matches.

Any extra mass at the front end helps to dampen the wobble effect encountered when shooting offhand.

xd 45

I shot my first XD yesterday at the range. It was the 5 inch model 45 acp.
The first string of 5 230 round nose went into an inch group single hole. The owner and myself were very surprised. Might be fun to get one and send it off the Speingfield custom shop for their custom work or custom XD packages.

i read this last night. and it got me thinking of a cheap way i can add weight to the front the of my xd 45 5 inch. i would like to get a tlr-1 or 2. but dont have the funds right now. i was thinking. since the guide rod is hollow. would it be possible to put weight in the guide rod and then seal it off so the weight wouldnt fall out. i was thinking maybe round fishing weights.

thanks jeremy
