I just purchased a XD-9 tactical pistol. I primarily wanted an accurate top quality auto-loader for target shooting and the 9 MM ammo is about 9 dollars a box cheaper at Wal-mart than .45 ACP. However, the Air Force is moving me to TX this summer (San Antonio area) and I would like to try Javelina hunting. I will probably use my SKS or Mini-14 as my primary weapon. However, would a 9 MM work for javelinas or small hogs? I am thinking about using hollow points of some type like the 147 grain or the hydra shocks. Thanks for the feedback. I figured that an accurate pistol like the XD-9 could be used for something besides just targets.

It will work but I like a 357 or bigger. Most will weigh thirty pounds or less. You will want the smaller ones for eating and fixed right they are tasty. Watch out for the musk gland on their back when skinning. And welcome to Texas.
