Just curious as to how many LEO agencies are issuing the Springfield XD as a duty weapon. Certainly there are some departments and agencies using this pistol. Anybody know of any in particular?

The problem with the XD is that it is, technically, a single action firearm and many departments don't like the idea of a single action firearms.

I'm not aware of any PD's that use the XD as a duty weapon. I've seen a lot of comments from LEO's on various forums who said they wished they could carry an XD on-duty and many carry the Sub-Compact as their off-duty CC gun.

Guess it will take some time for larger agencies to accept the XD. So many other options out there. I guess Glock will continue to dominate the LEO polymer market for a little while longer.

The thing is, the XD will never be used by the police that widely because Springfield Armory refuses to support the product. There are no XD armorers I'm familiar with. Glock and Sig armorers are all over the place however.

I CCW an XD and like the platform very much, but I would not select it for a department issued weapon. I would want something I could get fixed tomorrow, locally, if I had to.

some departments don't mandate a given weapon per se. Fort Collins PD lets their officers carry pretty much anything in 9mm or larger. I am sure there's a few that do carry XD's.

SA has been promising an XD armorers course for some time. It has yet to make an appearance.

I do believe Springfield Armory is going to have to make some definate changes in policy before they will be useful to LEO agencies. I didn't realize that they were so uptight with product service. I belive it would make an excellent duty weapon, that's why I started the post. Maybe a better question would be something like this. Would you carry a SA-XD pistol as a duty weapon. I think I'll start that one.:D

I am an LEO and we are mandated to carry only 9mm and it has to be;

1. Glock 19 or 17

2. Beretta 92 Series

3. S & W 9mm (any)

So M&P OK but PX4 Storm is not:confused:

Most carry the G19 or 17

If I could carry an XD45ACP, I would put my service in the holster immediately, although I do like my G19...

Im in LE and I have yet to hear of an agency that issues the XD - There might be some out there but I wouldn't guess there are many. I am hearing of a few more officers choosing to carry one if their agency allows it. Personally I think a big part of the problem is the fact that the gun is still quite new when compared to the Glocks, Sigs, etc. Not too many agencies are going to be interested in changing all their guns to one that hasn't had a chance to prove itself yet. Once it builds a reputation I could see the XD taking off in LE. But... it might not. I think its still too early to tell. Personally I think if I had a choice of weapons I might look into the XD .45Tac as a duty gun - hard to beat that many rounds of .45.

Nuclear power plant

I spoke to an old buddy of mine yesterday, who is now the training officer for the security force for the local nuclear power plant. They have approximately 30 officers, and they are issued, much to my surprise, 9mm XD's as their secondary weapons. AR's are their primary weapons.

Our local city PD issues XD .45 ACP's and the adjoining county issues XD's as well. I carry an XD on duty (4" service) as well as off duty (3" sub-compact).
