XD changes since introduction?

I bought an XD 9 around 2005. What changes have been made to the XD since then, other than the slide finish? Are there different generations like glock, or is the one I have still the same as current production?

I noticed some new magazines I bought are 16 rounds instead of 15 round that came with the gun.

I'm no expert, but I thought that the XDm was like the next generation of the XD. I'm thinking that an XD that you buy today is like the XD that you bought in '05. Maybe I'm wrong.

There is regular XD, and the newer XDm. They made changes to the grip, and I believe some other small changes. The magazines might be different between the two.

The XDm mags have a higher capacity. The XD should still use the same mags it always did. As long as yours don't say XDm on the bottom, you should be good to go.

Leaving out the obvious differences between the XD and XDm's....

Later XD's had different recoil spring mating surfaces on the barrel lug.
Some later XD's had a chamfered muzzle.
