Wow. I guess all those AKs made in eastern Europe and Russia by *insert substandard type of workers here* are just so unreliable that no one should ever trust their lives to 'em. :scrutiny:

What a buffoon.

This is exactly why I love THR (Seriously!)

You guys are great-never in a forum before have I come across so many well thought out comments. No kidding, I mean that sincerely.

Actually I am totally ignorant when it comes to employee incentives at gun stores. Do they get a commission or percentage of sales?

Nah, it all depends on the shop. Me? There is no commision, I work there for the discount so it makes no difference to me if you buy the $300 Bersa (not a bad gun IMHO) or the $25,000 Krieghoff (THAT amount of money would buy my full auto, suppressed MP5SD). So yeah, it all depends on the shop.

The XD to me appears to be an excellent weapon, in fact, my hands fit better on the grip of an XD versus my USP which has been a staple of my collection since '95 when I got it (nice birthday present from my dad at 17). I love those to death, but the XD has gotten my attention in a big way.

But I've found recommending guns is a lot like recommending shoes-everyone needs to try on a few pairs before they find "the one". The XD appears to be a high quality, reputible weapon that deserves attention, and appropriately I'll give it the attention it deserves.

All said & done, though-to each their own. try what you like. The right weapon is out there-you just need to experiment. The fun in all of this confusion is that it is fun. Plain & simple.

Okay, XD owners - child sweatshop factor aside, would you trust your (or your loved ones') lives to these cheeesy little Croatian pretenders?

I've carried mine for 6 years...4 of those in Law Enforcement!...What do you think...?

Why the Bashing of a simple, reliable pistol

To those who bash the XD,
1. If you like your Sig, HK, tuned 1911, that is wonderful- chose what fits you best. I, personally, find that the XD9 Service model fits my hand well, and so I am going to purchase one. You may like the Sig or HK pistols better. If you can afford them, that is great. Personally, as a young man starting law school in the fall, I cannot afford to spend that kind of money on a pistol, and will not, when I like the XD9 so much.
2. This thread shows what is great about America. We have such a superabundance of calibers/guns/manufacturers to choose from, and everyone can get what they want.
3. My family is from that region of Europe- They did plenty of damage to each other in WWII with Mauser 98k and Mannlicher-Schonauer 6.5mm M1903/14 rifles-all stock. I just put this in to make us realize that we do not need the newest uebertacticool masterblaster to be effective in a fight.

Just my 2 cents

I agree with what ApexinM3 said

Forgot to add this to my last post...
I agree that people should just chose the weapon that works best for them.

I went and took everyones advice.I did the unthinkable.I bought an xd.I went out to the range and put a few rounds through it.I have to admit that the xd is slimmer but i am '6 2' with hands the size of bannanas. The glock is just more comfortable for me to shoot. The accuracy was not too bad and the price was fair. The xd was not a bad little pistol.
I do agree with the customer though, i would not make it my go to gun.I would feel much more confident grabbing my glock,hk or sig.If that was all i had then of course i am going to use it but i wouldn't bet my life on it.I have to say it will be in my safe but not in my holster.
-Sorry to all about my previous thread

The salesman must have had too many high priced HK's, Sig's and Glock's in stock.

I hear crap like this all the time from gun dealers. One not far from home says that if he doesn't carry it, it's no good! Well, he doesn't carry Browning, Colt, Ruger, S&W auto's, STI, Springfield at that time and others. You get the picture. Anyway, I wanted an XD and went somewhere else and bought one. I saw the dealer a few months back, he is carrying Springfield now. I asked him if they decided to sell crap, he just looked sheepish and muttered I couldn't understand.

Folks, get your info and recommendations from those that are not wanting to sell you something.

I trust my life to an XD-40 quite often.

I don't care what some salesman say's about it, The XD line of Handgun's are something I would trust my life to!

Can we call people idiots, or would that be against that rules?
It wouldn't be incorrect. :)

Bashing a gun he's probably never shot!
The XD is better than the Glock in some ways. Feel, and trigger, to name a couple.

iSS,

Apparently you are unable to comprehend, judging by your posts in this thread, that the original poster was merely relating something he overheard in a gunshop. He was not expressing his own opinion on the XD. Additionally, the child sweatshop comment the original poster made was an obviously sarcastic comment based on the gunshop clerk's child labor slur.

I suggest you refer to the forum rules before you call another member an idiot. You DID agree to abide by the rules when you joined.

I realized that right after posting. I originally thought it was his own words, and my post has since been edited.

Let the mods enforce the rules, things can get out of hand with too many chiefs. :neener:

There is nothing wrong with child labor. America was built on it. If the kids in Croatia make good guns, then great...so long as they are fairly paid.

Not to worry, it is okay to buy the gun because it has an American name, Springfield. If folks can justify buying an "American Made" car that has mroe than 50% foreign parts and/or labor, then why not such a gun?
