Yep, lot's of us own them and most of us like them quite well. Use the search funtion and you will find a wealth of knowledge on the XD.

The XDs I've shot have been totally reliable, and the triggers are quite good out of the box as striker fired service type pistols go. The Melonite finish on all guns imported after Jan 06 clears any concerns on durability there. The only downside is parts availability, and trained armorers with the tools to disassemble the pistol the pistol should a problem arise (though we've yet to have an XD returned due to breakage at the rather large gun shop where I work).

However, I'd still lean toward a Glock, FN FNP, or S&W M&P in a poly frame auto. The latter two are the new guys on the market, but both companies are consistently making parts and armorers courses available to FFLs and their employees for the respective pistols. All three are pretty easy to take down with a few readily available tools and some basic instruction in doing so.

I just recently purchased mine about 3 three weeks ago ( XD9 Service). I have shot about 240 rounds through it so far, and no problems. Plus it's pretty accurate. I like it a lot more than other 9mm pistols I have shot.

Working on my third one

I bought my first XD which was the great and almighty service model chambered in 45 acp. I like it so much that I decided to buy the Sub-compact model. After doing so and liking it so much I have now decided to purchase the Tactical model next week.

All that said, I've own over 44 different firearms from different manufactors and like the XD platform very much. Remeber, to each is their own and I would say rent it first before you buy it to ensure you like it.

Weren't they gun of the year for 2005 or 2006? I really like the XD, I just got my Tactical .40 a week or so ago.

They are coming on strong and more of them are showing up at IPSC matches.

Fantastic.

I've got an XD9sc and I love it! It's been 99.9% reliable...one hiccup during break-in and now it's a fine little shooter. For its size it's very accurate!

VERY fine weapon - probably the Finest

I own the XD9, XD357, XD40, XD40SC, XDLE (.45GAP), XD45 Tactical.

All are incredibly accurate (esp. the SC) and fit like a glove!

Okay, I'll be the one nay sayer...I've seen 3 break and in my experience, the trigger can be long and mushy or short & light...really luck of the draw on which one you end up with. On the good side, accuracy is really good w/ the guns I've shot.

I don't know how anyone can complain about parts availability. I lost the striker retainer plastic tube on my XD45 while trying to reassemble after cleaning. Like a dummy, I was outside on the lawn and it flew apart and was never found. I called SA on the phone monday morning and spoke to a very nice lady who asked if I had torn down the slide far enough to remove the striker assembly too and I admitted I had. Two days later I got a bubble pack in the mail with TWO of the little plastic striker caps AND two brand new firing pin retainer roll pins. I don't know how anyone could be any more supportive of their products.

Sounds really good. I already own a Glock17 in 9mm, and M & P in .40. Just want to add number 22 to the safe. Thank you to all for the helpful insight.

I have an XD45 4". I've never EVER had a problem with it. Outstanding pistol.

Of course, my new favorite 9mm is the Beretta PX4 Storm.

Like 10-Ring, I'll be a nay sayer.

NOTE: I am certain that the XD is a fine pistol, so please don't take the following as a dis to the XD or XD owners. I really liked my XD at first, but I guess I have just moved away from it and other polymer pistols in my preferences. I guess I'm more of a wheelgun/1911 kind of guy.

1) The trigger on my XD-9 was mushy/gooey, as 10-Ring described

2) The trigger safety started to hurt my finger after about 50 rounds - it's sharp edges were down right annoying. Maybe my fingers aren't callused enough?

3) A tad top heavy for my tastes

4) Under recoil, I felt an odd sort of vibration/resonance in the polymer frame. Kind of like holding onto a vinyl fence while someone smacks it with a rubber mallet a few feet away. I'm not sure how else to describe it, but it just did not feel right.

5) Due to it's wide/blocky shape, my preferred dress, and the fact that I'm fairly thin, I found the XD challenging to conceal.

6) I shot it okay, but not as well as my revolvers, 1911s, or a CZ-75 I tried recently. I just wasn't consistent.

Your mileage will most likely vary from mine. Again, I think the XD is a fine handgun, but not for me.

The XD's are awesome

I have an XD-40 service model and I'll wager its the best 40 cal pistol on the market for ~$500. Mine is very accurate, totally reliable, fits my hand like a glove, and is very comfortable to shoot. The XD is probably the best gun purchase I have ever made, very pleased and would buy another in a heartbeat.

My CCW carry pistol is an XD9 SC that has a custom slide finish with night sites. It has thousands of round through it, and has had one failure that I can only ascribe to ammo because I have never been able to duplicate it.

My house gun is a XD45 tactical that has never failed at all, but has fewer rounds then the XD9 which I have had a number of years.

I never thought I would own two of the same type of gun, but for me, the XD series just has all the right attributes for working firearms. Reliability, ruggedness, good trigger, accurate and did I mention reliable.

Pretty? Not so much. But that's what my BHP is for.

Thad "what is a good price for this pistol??? I was quoted $800 (canadian)"

Academy has a 9mm Service one their webpage for $499. I bought my XD45 Service for about $475 over a year ago. I'm not sure what is considered good this year, but $475 was a pretty good deal for me last year.

got mine back in December or so. 9mm 4" barrel...think that's what they call service lenght, not sure.

I've shot many glocks, I like the XD's grip better, and the dovetail safety and the cocked/chamber loaded indicators that YOU CAN FEEL are awesome, especially in low light conditions. and, it's got the Springfield name behind it, which means great customer service, if you ever need it.
It's got a dual stage recoil spring, which is kinda neat.

cons: can't really customize an XD...yet.... there don't seem to be any parts for trigger jobs or anything of that nature yet. My fiance likes it more than I do, so I don't get as much trigger time on it at the range.

Shot many many many rounds through it as it's my only 9mm and the GF likes it...and all the fellas want to try it out. So, it's kinda like the bastard of my collection, just kinda gets loaned out all the time...shoots all kinds of cheap ammo and I don't probably take near as good care of it as my other guns.

The price is right on them, mine was was $450 in December. A good pal got one the same day after he saw mine "I like that dovetail safety" he says. I say "shoot it first, then come back and buy one later." "it's a springfield, it'll be fine" so, he got the .45acp 4", and it is one awesome pistol. I hate to say it, but I like it better than the 9mm. Good capacity, same width grip (or so close you can't tell the diff).

in 9mm....More ergonomic than the Baretta 92, same capacity but not nearly as pretty. Frankly, I find the glocks and XD's to be ugly guns.

Not true. Springer Precision makes a drop-in sear kit and partnered with another shop on a trigger bar. Springer also does fantastic trigger jobs using their own custom-made case-hardened steel parts. I'm planning to send mine out soon. It look like I can get a 4.5 pound combat trigger job, fluff and buff, ramp polishing and night sighs for a bit over $300. There are also shops doing hard chroming on XDs and others doing grip reductions and stippling. Plus Crimson Trace has an XD laser grip coming out later this year.

Wow thats 752 U.S. which is way overpriced. Usually they can be found for around 500 or so here (532 canadian). Is there some sort of tax added to handguns in canada? or is it just due to the scarcity and or shipping fees? (even with shipping i can't see justification for that).
