XD45 Compact?

Yeah, a lot of people are disappointed that they didn't come out with a subcompact XD45 with 3" barrel. They might be having issues with the shorter barrel and need more testing before they release it. The compact looks like a quick fix, just basically chopping the grip. I was considering the service model though, and now that this one is out, I might have to consider it instead.

nahhh its just good marketing..

1st the come out with the 5" and everyone jumps on it

Than

They come out with the 4" compact and even people that already own the 5" buy it

Than

They come out with the 3" sub-compact and they sell even more....

i believe without the extension the XD45 compacts grip is the same size as the subcompacts, the barrel is just the same length as the service 4"

My friend has the 4" service XD40 and there is little difference in that and my XD45 service, mainly just in the thickness of the grip, not length

It's the XD version of the CCO. 4" slide on a shortened grip frame. Think of it as Dremel Engineering.

I have both XD45 Service and Tactical. This version doesn't interest me.

I'd be more interested in the short grip frame and a 3 - 3.5" barrel.

However, if they sold the lowers separate......maybe.....Naah. Makes too much sense. Springfield would never do it.

It sounds like they made the XD officer's model. I may be in the minority here, but I actually like what they did with this one.

If the barrel gets below 4" I prefer the .40S&W over the .45ACP as I'm not sure velocity out of the short tube will be high enough to ensure adaquate penetrationwith the .45, especially if you get any expansion.

Since the .40S&W will be about 100-150 fps faster thant he .45 out of equal barrel lengths and the sectional density of .40 180gr is the same as .45 230gr I'll choose the .40 over .45 in sub-compacts to insure adaquate penetration.

It doesn't look that short to me. Looks like a normal sized grip not quite as abbreviated as the compact xd's.I may have to do some trading!

Can't Get Excited Yet

I have the XD-45 Tactical, which is a fun gun. I don't see the compact version replacing my SIG P245. If SA ever releases a true subcompact, I believe I'll wait until I see field reports before I plunk down money on one. If the barrel is shorter than 4.04", which is the XD-45 Service, I expect cycle problems. I just don't want to be included in the manufacturer's beta testing.
