Glock owner and have held off on the XD, hearing about finish problems and guide rods breaking. Is the problems still happening or has Springfield fixed it?

I've put more than 9000 rounds through my XD with no problems. The slide finish is a little weak, but not the major problem some make it out to be (and corrosion can be prevented with a regular wipe down with some Breakfree CLP). The guide rod problem has been pretty intermittant. I know of a least a dozen XD owners locally who've not had a problem. If you do have a problem, replacement guide rods are available under warranty or there are aftermarket units you can purchase.

For more on the XD see the XD / HS2000 forum.

I've not heard of a problem with the guide rod breaking. I did replace the guide rod on my XD just because I'm not a big fan of a "captive" guide rod. I replace them on my Glocks too. I've had pistols with weaker finishes, but the XD's finish isn't the greatest. I hard chromed one of my XDs, but I'm leaving my other XD alone. So far, no problems.

Here's a link of my XD with new guide rod; it works well:

I own an XD and hang out at the XD forums, Ive never heard of a guide rod breaking. Theres a guy on the board that sells one piece guide rods and you can select the # of the spring, it uses Springfield compact recoil springs, I bought one($19,99) plus a 22# spring from Wolff at about $6.00 and I love them(think I'll go to a 20# spring). Im like litework just dont like 2 piece springs. I carry my XD(357sig) everyday(CCW) and Ive had no problem with the finish. The finish isnt as good as some but its holding up just fine. Springfield has a good lifetime warranty on the XD. You can also buy barrels for them from Barstow...some day I'll get the .40 cal barrel for my 357sig. Theres also a great selection of holsters being made for the XD now to. I use a frist #8 close cropped in leather, got it off the XD boards from Gunners Alley. Extra factory mags can also be had on the XD boards....$23.00 delieverd. Hope this helps you out :D

Can't say much about the reliability of the XD. But my Gen1 HS2000 is still going strong many, many thousands of rounds later. :D

I think the biggest difference you'll find is the grip angle. The Croation Sensation has a more traditional grip angle than the radical angle of the GLOCKs. The HS/XD is far more SiG like than GLOCK like in most respects.

I have a hs2000 thats what they were called when they were first imported by another company. Its been very reliable, The only malfunctions I ever had were when I replaced one of the mag bases with a bronze one for IDPA cause I kept braking the polymer ones then I realized the bronze one wasn't flush like the polymer ones and hasn't missed a beat since I got a replacement polymer one.It does kinda suck now though they were under $300 when they were first imported.

The range I belong to has 3 XD's as rental guns. Several months ago, they had 2 guide rods break w/in a couple of weeks (after many months of range abuse by the way!), but since then, they've been working problems free. The XD's I've rented were nice shooters, I'd consider them if I hadn't already filled my poly gun niche ;)

I'm disappointed to hear that about the finish of the XD. That's one of the Glock's major selling points, to me at least, it's worry-free finish. I live in hot, humid, sweaty GA, and I don't want to have to worry about my guns rusting while I'm carrying them.

Well, my HS2000 spent several years in Brunswick, GA. No rust. But then neither did my blued wheelguns, my SiGs, or any of my other guns.
