XP 100 in 458 win mag?

Anyone know anything about Remington XP 100's in 458 win mag? Who built them, value, etc? I have the oppurtunity to buy one pretty cheap. TIA.

there is probably one reason why it is cheap and that the recoil is HEAVY. I wouldn't buy it for any more than what the cost of the action would be. it isn't a very practical gun.

They are tough to shoot out of a HEAVY rifle, I can't imagine what it would be like out of XP 100. That is probably why it is so cheap.

If you plan on downloading the 458 then go ahead and buy it. That is really the only thing it is good for. I wouldnt shoot any full house loads out of it.

50% more ME then 3.5 inch shell with a slug out of my shotgun, in my hands? I don't hardly think so. How cheap is cheap? I would pay 100$ for it, at most 200$. I wouldn't likely ever shoot it, unless I could get a friend to down load the .458 to something like a 44 mag power

There was a video of an Encore with a 600 nitro barrel being fired circulating. The gun flew out of the shooter's hands and smacked him on the forehead. There's also a company that makes a 600 revolver, but I wouldn't touch either for free and I've shot a few 458's in rifles with good recoil pads and I wouldn't put a box of shells through them at on sitting either. I enjoy shooting, and 357max, 445 and 500 S&W are my limits with pistols. If you enjoy pain, then get the 458 and shoot away.

Haha more then likely. Be sure to check it out, I bet its trigger isn't broken in yet. Might need to shoot 200 rounds through to get it as crisp as it should be

When I was 12, I shot ONE round of .458 from a Ruger Model 3 (?).....

I should also mention that if you just buy it for the action you will need a new bolt since it had to be reworked to work with the magnum case head size.

I saw one in the 1970s when there was an IHMSA club in the area. Naturally he did not shoot it with full power elephant loads. Actually, he did not shoot it much at all, but it was a great conversation starter.

The XP100 was a very short action, at least the original one. The .458 takes a long action. I'm not really computing on this one. I think they did some in 7-08, a short action round. I don't recall it being chambered for long actions, but I really never paid attention to the gun that close. LOL Maybe they built a long action version????? I always thought of it as a "hand rifle" cause you can't carry it in a holster, normally slung like a rifle. I've carried my Contender into stores concealed in a UM's shoulder rig before. Actually, it took a while to warm up to the Contender enough to try one. First 100 yard group made me a Contender lover, though.

i would buy it, i own two xp-100r,s right now and have owned a few contenders in 35 rem., 45-70 and 375 jdj,and a encore in 454 cascull and 308 win. loaded down to managble recoil levels it would be a great deer and bear handgun. 500gr bullet at 2400fps,no. but 350gr bullet at 1500-1700 fps,yes. eastbank.

Years ago I fired, just once, a TC Contender handgun chambered for a .30-30 cal. rifle cartridge. I haven't forgotten the pain.

With full power rounds, mine recoils about like a .38 wadcutter in a K frame. It's got the 12" "hunter" barrel with very effective muzzle break on it, actually, a compensator. God help your ears if you ain't got your muffs, though.

Re the short action, there are a couple of 458 wildcats out there that are based on a shortened 458 Winchester case.

I had read the xp was basically a model 7 which I knew to be a short action. I was wondering how a 458 win mag would fit. I don't know if the round could be turned in to fit or not. I haven't physically seen this gun yet. I figure I'll wait awhile and see if he comes down on price at all.

Back in the late seventies or early eighties a gunsmith in SoCal was tinkering w/XP-100's He made one for my wife in .243win, the recoil was not to bad, but it didn't shoot very well. She had it redone in .223. Still has it.
He also tried .458win mag. He settled on a 2" case (I don't recall the bullet weight) It worked just fine. The full size .458 would not work very well.
