Thank you "pert near" for that #2 photo. Have a #3 in 375 Winchester that has some of the ugliest wood.... That can get changed. Thank you !

Congrats, that stock is beautiful, what wood is used on these?

As someone already mentioned, Ruger won't sell #1 stocks. Take-off factory forends are fairly easy to find, but the butt stocks are tough. I bought the one in the picture off of Gunbroker for $110 unfinished & rough inletted out of Canada. It was a dark walnut. I used a piece of ebony for the grip cap & fitted a Limbsaver for recoil pad. No checkering on butt because that's too tough for me. I had to experiment with various dyes to get the butt stock color to properly match the forend. Finished with Trueoil & rubbed down with Trueoil sheen.

I found one with a 4 digit serial number at a gun shop in 270 for $550 this spring in okay condition (definitely used but not abused). I thought about it constantly for a week until I finally went back for it. Someone bought it that morning. Big mistake letting that go.

I owned 12 number ones, but I,m down to four now. my favorite is a 35 whelen in a #1-A. I look at it as a American 9,3x62. eastbank.

If you are a handloader you can make some lighter loads. I don't own but have shot a 458 #1 from a bench. Not fun.

Mine is a 25-06 #1V with the heavy bull barrel. One of my favorite rifles.

I killed my first deer with my Grandpa's #1 in 22-250. They are beautiful and well balanced.
