looks like a new player in the AK market has emerged... Pioneer arms from Poland has a new poly furniture AK-47 pre order from AIM surplus for only $469! Im sure its much better quality than wasr... and good news since Saiga ban... :)

From their website:
All our AKM style firearms are build form 100% new parts produced in our plant in Radom, Poland.

7.62x39 Sporter AKM style rifle.

I would agree that this bodes well for the quality of the guns-and (owning one) it's not too hard to beat a WASR for quality...:)

What leads you to believe it will be better quality than a WASR?

Because most Romanian parts look like they were chiseled from steel by drunk guys with stone hammers. The Polish parts I have are well made with a very nice finish, better than a lot of recent American stuff.

It has been confirmed that the Pioneer rifles (at least the first batch that came into the country) use a Polish-made barrel and receiver, but the parts are indeed Romanian.

That is the previous generation.
The current generation is polish parts. The parts are sourced from surplus stocks, with the exception of the bolt carrier that is a new manufacture cast part.
They do have the assortment of 922R parts and are backed up by :barf:IO INC.:barf: I'm a bit underwhelmed the more I've learned about the Pioneer AK. I'd rather spend my money on a preban, Arsenal(spendy), VEPR or a O/N-PAP.

The IO inc part is a real turn off. In my one experience with them they not only screwed up my order but had horrid customer service. After shipping Sem of the right items they never did ship others and weeks after the estimated delivery date and multiple calls and promiss it was coming, someone there finally fessed up that they were never going to get it in stock and never would deliver it. They would have just kept my money. Eventually I was able to get a refund.

The new polish guns IM limited E are not all that in terms of the quality.

AKs are becoming so popular in the US, I wonder why a more reputable company doesn't take up the gauntlet and start making them.

I.O. and Century don't have the best reputations. People shy away from American made parts on AKs...but there are certainly US companies, or companies with operations in the US which could easily match Eastern Block quality. FN and Ruger both CHF barrels. I think Mossberg may as well, and other companies could source from the likes of them or Daniel Defense.

I suspect it's because AKs are cheap to manufacture if you're making 100,000s of them. The parts aren't trivial to make and require hand fitting to work right. Which means you need trained laborers which are hard to find and expensive in the USA.

ARs are much more suited to American methods of manufacture. Parts are produced by automated equipment with tolerances tight enough that all the parts fit with any other set of random parts and can be assembled by a guy you hired off the street 3 hours ago.

Receiver, barrels, fcg, and furniture for AKs are made in the US. However surplus parts and kits are still dirt cheap. Much cheaper than producing anything in the US.
