I bought a couple of 250 rd. bulk yellow boxes of the Remington UMC in 9mm. I must have gotten some bad boxes. In multiple guns, I got failure to feeds, failure to ejects, stovepipes, etc, in every mag or every other mag. It was also getting more black powder on my hands and gun than other brands that I have shot. I also tried during the same range session some Winchester White box and Blazer Brass, and the Bass Pro brand Winchester SZX? stuff, all without a hiccup. UMC was also getting little brass dust/shavings all over my guns, but not with any of the others. Maybe I just got a couple of bad boxes, but I think I will stay away from the UMC from now on. Anyone had bad experience with that stuff?

A long time ago, yellow box UMC was good ammo. No longer. The last box I got gave me lots of problems. Sounds like it's even worse now.

Don't buy UMC yellow box anymore. It's not what it used to be. Nowadays it's just rejected factory lots, whereas used to be it was overruns of good FMJ ammo. Old guy at the store told me to try MagTech.

Tried a box of 9mm UMC when it 1st came out years ago. And later a box of UMC 10mm, Both seemed like they were underpowered and weak causing short stoking in semi autos. I avoid this UMC stuff myself.

I have always bought Greenbox UMC but heard that it was exactly the same as yellow box value packs. The thing for me is I generally dont see a quantitiy discount in the yellow box UMC so I have never bought it. In fact last time I was at Bi-Mart they had the 50rnd boxes on sale so I bought individual boxes for less than I could have bought the value pack.

That being said the greenbox has treated me well so far in my M&P

Most shooters around here stay away from Yellow Box UMC. Inconsistant charges, FTF, FTE, etc. I've had good luck with the Remington in the green box, they must have different QC for the yellow box. IMHO, home grown is the only way to cheap high quality ammo. WWB isn't so cheap anymore, but I've had good luck with Cabelas bulk ammo ( I believe it is reloaded by Ultramax.) Magtech makes good stuff as well and is not that much more than UMC.

My dad and I went to the range last weekend. We had a 100 round box of Remington green in .45 ACP and a 250 round UMC yellow box in 9mm. We didn't have issues with either one. Maybe I got lucky? :)

im pretty new to 9mm but is magtech supposed to be decent ammo? it was the first thing i shot through my 995 that i got on thx giveing weekend. paid 17.49 for a box of 115gr fmj cause it was the cheapest they had at the local sporting goods. then a week later while at an out of the way party store i see they have ammo, picked up a box of winchester 115gr beb ammo for 13.99 and it was much cleaner and a bit more accurate.

i saw magtech bulk 250rnd boxes in cabelas catalogue but thought it was just dirty nasty ammo.

Magtech is supposed to be good-feeding, reliable ammo at a low price. It's not the best, but it's got good quality control and works well in 1911's.

I used some UMC yellow box on my 686. I had never had a problem with that gun and over 11k+ rounds through it. The dang thin siezed up an I had to have the range master help me open the cylinder. Lets just say that box made it to the trash can after only 2 shots fired.

I still shoot my 686 with several different brands of ammo and have put about 2k through it since that fatefull box of UMC without 1 issue.

mikethewolf it did seem to be reliable i never got a ftf or fte out of the box of 50 but the brass was really dirty and across the back of my right hand also was.
accuracy wasnt a big difference at 20yrds but was noticible. i went back and bought the last 2 boxes of the winchester beb just figured it was better ammo and 3.50 a box cheaper.

Hmm..never had a problem with the 9mm 115 gr. UMC stuff that I run regularly through my stock Glock 17.

It seems no dirtier than any other "generic" practice ammo and its performance seems to be "on par" with other typical domestic offerings.

Last autumn (Oct. 2008) I ran some over the "screens" and got the following results:

Remington UMC 9mm 115 gr. JHP (L9MM1B)
Hi: 1181
Lo: 1132
Av: 1161
ES: 49
SD: 13.5
n: 30

I usually run about 3K-4k rounds of it through my Glock 17 per summer on average and haven't had so much as a hiccup from it in three years.

I quit buying UMC a few years ago after seeing potentially dangerous bullet setback on chambered but unfired rounds in an AR!

Doesn't sound like they've done anything to improve in the meantime.

I while back I bought a thousand rounds worth of value pack for about $30 per 250 rounds (so I guess about $120). Seemed like an alright price to my mind at the time (first pistol in college). I like that its brass, but I agree that it seems kind of junkie. I've had FTF issues with it in my CZ PCR, though I think its because I need a new recoil and/or mag springs. Haven't taken the time to buy them as I carry my snubbie most often.

Bought a box of 250 at Bi-Mart and no problems with the first 49 rounds (7 mags @ 7 per) through my 1911 - 45acp.

Just for target use. Most likely will not get it again (why pay retail for it when other brands are at the same price).

GUNSLINGER; There's ur problem. Damn G17 eat anything that goes in them!!!!!

I haven't had anything FTF in either of my Berettas 9mm yet (92s and 9000s) but the American Eagle stuff seems to be more accurate for some reason over the UMC and WIn USA, so I have been paying the extra $1 or so when I have to (sometimes it is similarly priced).

I do have a 250 rd brick of UMC .45s I haven't tried yet, I'll have to break some of that out next time.

Way overpriced too, $18/50 at Dick's.:barf: My reloads cost me $6/50 and will outperform that garbage, guaranteed. It seems that outside of centerfire rifle ammo, the core lokt's, Remington ammo is crap, the 22 and pistol ammo.

Out of all the cheap reloaded ammunition, winchester white box, blazer aluminum etc. that I have run through my Ruger P-94 .40 the only thing it ever malfunctioned with was a round of umc out of the yellow bulk pack. I have been using blazer brass ever since. I did shoot 100 rounds of UMC from the green boxes after Christmas this year-it was a present from my Father in Law-shot fine. I'm probably gonna stick with blazer brass for the range though. It's the cheapest ammo I can buy at wal mart & has never not worked.

Remington Green Box

I have not used Yellow for years but, the green box is a good deal at Dicks so when I get factory that is the buy. The only issue I have had is a under power load. Shooter in my squad at NC State almost did not make power factor at the chrono because, of one very low charge. The average power factor out of a standard 4.5" M&P is 128 to 130 at 85 F. Good ammo for USPSA and IDPA and plinking. That is the 115 FMJ load.

Think I will stay away from UMC yellow.
