Sorry, I searched but didnt get much answers specifically for my questions...

Basically just lookin for a gun safe. Something around the size of the AMSEC BF-6030. Im not a cheap guy at all, but my collection probably wont ever grow like some of the "John Waynes" on here prepared for a zombie horde. So I dont think Ill ever get my moneys worth out of a $4k+ safe. If I can get a quality safe (roughly 60x30x26) around $1600-ish, whats the best safe for the money?

Keep in mind:
-USA made is a must
-combination lock is a must
-most likely be delivered (ordered by phone or on internet...from SW-MO nothing around here)
-going in garage
-dont really care about finish/color...but dont be pointin out no "super deal" safes in a high gloss pink...lol
-doubt my collection will ever grow above 6 long guns and 10 pistols...but I have lots of military accessories (most of value) that I would like to store in there as well

Thanks

I really like my Browning"theftgard"(yes, I know it is misspelled, but that's what it says on it). It fits all the parameters you listed and all for around $850.

The only problem I have is that I didn't expect my collection to grow as fast as it did. I now need another, so my advice is to buy BIGGER than you need. It's gonna last forever and you will always be adding things to it.

Blasphemy, but the Dick's Stack-On gun safes get the job done at 1/2 the price. Probably imported, but it beats having your stuff stolen.

Thank you a1abdj. But you have to agree, the stack-on beatcop speaks of isn't even a good boat anchor by comparison to my Browning! I wouldn't even use them in my garage for storing spraypaint.

Definately. The stuff coming out of China has a wide range of quality. It's not all junk, but some of it is.

Thanks everybody for the input.

Thanks ds/ks for the local area info.

And thanks a1abdj for the reply over at TFL too. (I posted both places so I could get as many opinions possible...lol)

The stack-on's are the lowest end, but are worth a look.

Don't get the "locker" types, made out of sheetmetal. Take a look at the 25 to 36 gun versions which are very sturdy.

It's a personal thing...what is the "real" vs. perceived threat level in your area. The $800 36-gun version will keep the average crook out for quite a while.

I like solid US construction, but don't want to spend twice as much for the same 10 to 12 gauge steel safe.

Just my .02

Garage

A safe is a must! Look around for second hand ones, some friends, a borrowed PH Truck, you have a safe. Ask around, local lock smiths etc.

In the Garage (always keep door down) park safe against a side wall, an old white bed sheet to cover side and front. Blends in.

If the safe is in the garage, don't store tools in the garage that can be used to open the safe!

Kinda defeats the purpose, don't cha know.

Old guy, thats exactly what I am doing. I also have shelves on the street side with misc. camping crap to "camo" it up a little more. I bought a Amsec LP6036E last week, and its getting delivered and bolted to my floor on wednesday. I paid roughly $1300 for it with a dehumidifier and install. It was on sale from a list price of $2100, I think, from a local guy.

how much higher are them sturdy safes compared to the AMSEC in the size I listed? And I noticed they have gutted inside doors. Is it just in the picture or what? Cause a cover preferably carpet to hang accessories and firearms on would be a plus.
