Yet another NICS delay...

I sure can't wait until I can get my CHP in Virginia...but I have another 2 years to go. I plan on carrying but even if I don't all the time the other benefits are just really worth it. It doesn't exempt me from the background check when buying a gun (I don't think) but it exempts me from the 1 handgun every 30 days, transporting laws, etc. so I don't have to worry about what's "concealed" in my truck (since there's no trunk).

Ohio CCW doesn't matter in the NICS stuff.

Got a Shooting Budd who ALWAYS gets delayed. Seems that there is some no-good-nik with the same name, and only a 1 digit difference in the SSN.

Meantime, no-good-nik still has several more years before being parole eligible, but Budd still gets delayed...sometimes as much as 2 days.

I have a CCW (doesn't mean much where I am at). Every time I have an NICS check done it is hit or miss, about half are instantly approved and the other half are delayed. The irritating thing is, the last time I got delayed the gun store called me about an hour later when I just got back from there telling me I had been approved. At a certain point the check just becomes pointless. I mean if they have approved you ten or more times in the past, what does it matter if you buy one more?

Wesson, I've purchased eight firearms (rifles/handguns) since July 2007 and have not had any delays. The NICS check takes about 2 to 3 minutes each time. I do include my SSN. I have a CCW, but it was issued too long ago to be used in place of the NICS. "Back then" Kentucky did a State background check, but no Federal check.

I get delayed EVERY single friggin time now. I went to how many shops in how many towns, and always got instant approvals. Now, I always get delayed. Last time, it took half an hour to get the approval after a delay.

Illinois sucks.

I have bought three weapons in the last few years that required a NICS (ohers were private deals :) ) and never been delayed. The VAF sounds like something I would never consider, except the FBI already has enough info on me because of the half dozen background checks the Air Force has already done on me, and I doubt the NICS folks will knock on doors in my neighborhood like the Feds did.

In FL, the only thing the CCW does is eliminate the 3-day handgun waiting period. Still got the NICS.

I've never been delayed, but in Ma, you can't buy any handgun without a license to carry, nor any long gun without either a LTC or FID. You cannot have any firearm even in your home with out an LTC or FID.

In Ma, you need to show a LTC before you can even handle a firearm in a store. Every sale is NIC'd.

You cannot own or possess any ammo or ammo components without a permit.

I have an empty reloaded SW500mag cartridge for a key fob. Technically, handling my key ring, if you don't have an LTC or FID,makes you a felon.

 I was at Gander Mt in Fridley Mn about a year or so ago, maybe a little longer and witnessed an interesting exchange between the gun counter Mgr and a customer who was in the midst of a nics delay. The Mgr was explaining that delay's usually resolve themselves within a day or so and that after a 3-day delay without hearing back from the Feds you were free to pick up your purchase. However, he further explained that it was Gander's policy to never release the firearm in question no matter how many days had passed since the nics check unless they had been given the go ahead from the Feds! He then further explained to the now completely befuddled customer that if Gander didn't hear back from the Feds within 5-business days after the initiation of a delay, then the pistol was placed back in the gun counter and the customer could then have his money returned.:uhoh:
I've made it a point to never shop at Gander Mt after hearing of their policy.;)

When I bought my P30 a couple of weeks ago I was "delayed" - but at least it was only like 30 minutes. It sucks - you drive an hour to go to a gun shop somewhere and may have to drive all the way back the next day just because the stupid check was delayed.

I wish you could get "pre-approved" for like 30 days or something.

But I am sure the NICS system has saved then of thousands of lives over the years ...

I went for years with no delays...... but, about a year ago I started getting delayed for EVERY FRIGGIN THING!! :banghead: Got the CC permit and no more NICS crap. That system is BROKEN and will never be fixed and the more crap they add to it the worse it will be. Just how they want it. What they don't get is BG's don't worry about the check as they just steal what they want. :fire:

If NICS can't clear a civilian in a reasonable time, how are we ever going to rid ourselves of all these illegal imigrant invaders?By the way I'am waiting 8 1/2 months just to get the permit's to purchase.Born in America 65yrs ago!.:D

I seem to get delayed about 50% of the time, with anywhere from 20 minutes to the full 3 days until they call back and say ok (the 20 minute one actually ticked me off the most, as I was expecting it to be the usual 1-3 days, so 20 minutes was just enough time to drive home from the shop, to have my phone start ringing the second I get in the door, and it's the dealer saying they just called back and it was approved :banghead:. VERY annoying.)This seems to happen whether I include me SS# or not, and in spite of the fact I had a secret security clearance for 5 years with the Navy before I got out 2 years ago, but they consider the investigation/background check to be still valid until like 2010 (in the event I were to need the clearance again), so I cant imagine what it could be.It's a little worse here in OR, as they dont count a CHL for the background check, and the NICS check is routed thru the state police :barf: so they can collect $10 from you (and likely some info too).Thats the only thing I hate about OR gun laws.Otherwise we are really top notch with regards to evrything else gun-wise.

Oh, and we closed the "gun show loophole" :banghead: a while back. That annoys me, but only on principal, as I just go to browse anyways.
