Okay everybody. We all love these bandwidth chomping picture threads. I especially do, as photographs are as close as I get to any gun that's not an M16, a Beretta 92, or an M2 machine gun. :(

So, let's see your .45 Caliber revolvers. .45ACP, .45 Colt, .455 Webley, whatever. S&W, Ruger, Taurus, all good. Even blackpowder. Single or double action.

Specific Requests:

-.455 Webley
-Webley Fossberry
-5.5" Redhawk
-M25 or M625 S&W, .45LC
-Taurus snubbies

So go to town, guys! :D

I'll start it off with a Mod 26-1 S&W in .45 Colt

Linebaugh "small" .45 Colt conversion, with 350 grain LBT next to a 230 grain 45 ACP ball round for comparison.

This 625mg is the bees knees!!

Does that there gun have a recessed cylinder? I don't see much room between the cylinder and recoil shield. Nice.

The uniform belonged to my grandfather who was a flight engineer on B-29's, I picked up the revolver later. Gramps told me he had a 'forty-five' on his flights over Japan, and it was likely a 1911A1... but what the heck.

PS if anyone knows which AAF patch that is I'd like to know.

Thanks,

Rob

NIIIIICE guys....

I've got to say. I've been tempted to stray from The Path, and get a .44 Magnum when I come home, just for the convenience of finding ammo.

But you guys...

Damn.

You know what I'm finding out? I like .45 Colts, but I want .357s and .44s and whatever else.

Hell, it's beginning to look like there are very few revolvers I DON'T want.

Damn damn. I need help. :D

EDIT: Oh, and tell me all about that US M1902 Colt. I'd never heard of that one. I seem to recall reading that when service ammo in .45 Colt switched from black powder to smokeless, the power dropped considerably, due to higher pressure.

... Oh, and tell me all about that US M1902 Colt. ...

The US Model 1902 was a variation of the Colt Model 1878 Double Action Frontier . This was Colt's first heavy frame double action revolver . It loaded through a loading gate like the already tremendously popular Colt Single Action Army (SAA) revolver . Colt made the M1878 from 1878 - 1905 with just over 51,000 mfg .

As most are aware , the US military standard issue sidearm from roughly 1890-1909 was the .38 Long Colt caliber revolvers made by Colt and later a relatively small number of S&W's . During our venture into the Phillipines , the stopping power of the .38 cal service revolver was tested against opium drugged Moro and other natives . The .38 didn't far well according to the battle reports . The Army requested .45 cal revolvers and Winchester M1897 shotguns be substituted for combat use in the Phillipines . A number of reconditioned Colt SAA "Artillery" model .45's were shipped in . Evidently , more .45's were required than were available , so the Army contracted with Colt for a little over 4,500 of them in 1901 . Most were shipped in 1902 . Hence M1902 I assume .

edit to add personal observation : Colt had the newly introduced [1898] New Service model available . A modern double action revolver with swing out cylinder designed for the 45 Colt . This would have been the logical choice imo to buy . Not the M1902 ! I will speculate Colt had many parts laying about for the M1878 which hadn't sold very well . They made a "deal" with the Army and were able to deliver them quickly because the parts were already available . Just my opinion .

..... A few years later , the US military did in fact request and take delivery of the New Service designated M1909 . Just under 80,000 if memory serves . They were marked on the butt as to which branch of the service they were issued . Army , Navy and Marines .

My latest gun purchase. Finally found that great deal on a 454 I've been waiting for. $350 with rings and UM Sidekick holster. No box or papers, big whoop. Used but not abused. Now, just need to cook up some ammo for it.
