Suspect sought in road rage hatchet attack

Anoka County sheriff's investigators are searching for a driver who got into a road-rage dispute with two men in another vehicle and hit one of them in the head with the back side of a hatchet.

Investigators want to talk with anyone who saw what happened about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday after the driver of a Jeep Cherokee Sport cut in front of a vehicle driving south on Round Lake Boulevard in Coon Rapids, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. The victim's vehicle pulled into a UPS Store parking lot at 130th and Riverdale Dr. NW., and the Jeep followed.

Authorities say that as Thomas J. Woods, 31, of Bethel, got out of his car's passenger side, the driver of the Jeep hit him several times in the head with the back of the hatchet. Woods, who was with his brother, Shaun Woods, was treated for head injuries at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids and released.

The Jeep was dark blue or black with gold pin-striping and four doors.

Should be titled "Man goes looking for trouble, finds it".
What possible reason could you have for exiting your vehicle and approaching the other vehicle besides seeking a confrontation? Ignore/call in bad driving behavior, don't become part of it. No good faith to cover anyones butt here.

Where in the story does it say that the victim approached the assailant's car? The jeep cut off the victim, the victim left the freeway, the jeep followed, the victim pulled into a parking lot, the assailant exited his jeep and approached the victim's car, the victim's passenger, while attempting to get out of the car, was attacked with a hatchet.

You're reading a lot into this one Thee.

Unless you're assuming that the Jeep driver was the one witnessing the victim driving poorly and followed to cause trouble. But the story clearly states that the Jeep cut off the victim.

At least Norwegians know geography and stuff! I sure as heck didn't. Most Americans don't know who Dick Cheney is.

Sounds to me like more than road rage. I would like to find out what happened BEFORE the Jeep cut off the other vehicle.

Thee, reread the story. As I understand it, in the article the Jeep driver was the aggressor in all of this.

Theebadone. It was me that posted the question, not Tallpine.

Authorities say that AS Thomas J. Woods, 31, of Bethel, got out of his CAR'S PASSENGER SIDE

The driver was getting out of the passenger side of his car? Sounds to me like he saw the jeep driver coming and tried to get away and was attacked AS he was getting out. A driver coming out of the passenger door does not sound like he was looking for a confrontation.

Sounds like we need more info.

The "Victim" was in the passenger seat, his brother was driving. The "Victim" decided to exit the car and approach the other driver.

How do you get that he approached the other driver? That's a big leap. It say that he was struck as he was getting out. He hadn't gotten out yet, otherwise the article would have read "after" getting out. The jeep driver was the assailant. Where does it say that he did anything other than attempt to get out of the car? How do you know that he approached the driver of the jeep? How do you know that the passenger wasn't trying to get to a phone booth by the UPS store? Answer? You don't.

Split hairs anyway you want to. There is not enough information to know exactly what happened. You can speculate all you want but that's just what it is, speculation.

'Maybe he was getting out to use a payphone'

Well maybe he was, or maybe he was getting out to kick the crap out of the other guy when he was dropped. We've only heard one side to this...
:scrutiny:

Thanks, you finally made my point for me. You were speculating all over the place. That's all I was trying to say.
