You need a fixed blade, can only have one.It needs to be a fighter, skinner, chopper etc.It needs to be a jack of all trades.Imagine verbiage we're no longer encouraging here.Just thought I would throw some maybe/maybe not scenario to pravoke thought.

Swamp Rat Knife Works - M6

6" long, 1/4" thick, high carbon SR101 steel (proprietary heat treat 52100) with micarta grips.

Just long enough to chop or, more likely, baton-split wood. Nominally small enough to skin. Excellent grip and stout enough to fight. Jack of all trades.

Swamp Rat Howling Rat. Second generation.

This one is a 1st gen. The choil is larger on the later models.

I'll stick with my Chen Gen.2 Practical Katana. It slices, it dices, it pokes, and you pretty much can't break it. Takes down trees, hogs, two-legged beasties, brush, and it even makes a dandy letter opener.

I've got a beat-up Randall #3 with a 5" blade that currently serves my fixed-blade needs. I've used it to clean almost every kind of game bird, field dress deer, dig holes, pry a broadhead from a root (oddly enough one of the tougher jobs), cut shooting lanes, split wood, whittle sticks for hot-dogs, make ground blinds, cook dinner, etc...

It's a bit of a compromise, since there are times when I'd like a little smaller or thinner blade. However, I've learned to adapt my techniques a bit and it's a great all-around knife.

This thread is really turning out great! Keep'em coming, posts and pics if you can. I just ordered my fixed blade of choice which is a Dozier Freedom Fighter.I will post pics when I get it.

I think my stout English blade is by far the prettiest of the bunch :p

I mean, come on, a Strider? It might be a superb cutting tool but I'd be too embarrassed to take it out of its sheath :neener:

don't be so jealous mate :D

The blade is made of O1 tool steel, the handles from curly birch, the bolts and lanyard ring are brass and the liners are vulcanised fibre.

Gunslinger: Which one? Ergo handle, straight handle, or the new Fusion proto they've been taking orders on? ;)

I've got a FBM-LE on order!! :D
