I've gave my dad three and my brother one. I have also gave my son three and my wife one. . I traded a used transmission I had in my repair shop for a hi-point with two extra mags and some ammo. My brother wanted a handgun so I gave it to him for his birthday.

I gave my son a Mossberg Super Bantam 20 gauge youth model with the adjustable stock for Christmas when he was 9. The next year on his birthday I got him a Ruger single six convertible. The next Christmas I gave him a 22lr AR15.

My wife lives S&W revolvers, stainless to be exact. For valentines day in 2010 I gave her a 4" no no lock 686. She loved it.

I gave my dad a Mosin Nagant 91/30 for his birthday a few years ago. He fell in love with it. For Christmas that year I got him the Nagant revolver to match. Finally a couple years back I gave him an LCP and a couple hundred rounds for Christmas. He had wanted one since they came out.

My dad also bought me my first gun ever, a brand new Winchester 12ga 1300 for Christmas when I was 11.

Last summer, we pitched in and gave my Dad a New Winchester Model 70 in 300 win mag for his birthday/ Father's Day present.

My grandfather gave me a Interarms Mark x in .270 when I turned 14.

Yep in recent years as well,,,

A few years back I got a young college boy into shooting,,,
For his graduation I gave him a Ruger 22/45,,,
And a custom holster for it.

This is him reading the ownership paper,,,
You can see the pistol in the paper.

Last December for her graduation,,
I gave a young lady a Heritage .22 revolver,,,
As well as a custom made gunbelt, cartridge pouch, and holster.

I'm currently teaching two co-ed students to shoot,,,
If they keep it up and continue on their own,,,
They will probably get a pistol as well.

Probably new Heritage revolvers,,,
They are well made a shoot very nicely,,,
And they are appropriate as our university mascot is Pistol Pete.

More importantly, as single-action revolvers,,,
They seem to be legal everywhere,,,
And I can afford them.

Commendable! I have given firearms to family and a GP 100 to my best friend who was moving to WI. Never thought of giving one to a new shooter...

I gave my youngest sister a S&W 3913 Ladysmith when she started working at night. She decided that she didn't like it after a hot shell casing landed in a delicate spot. I traded her for a Ruger Security Six, which she really loves.

My younger sister and her new husband had just purchased a farm out in the boonies. He had a 30-30 but they had nothing for pest control. That Christmas I got my sister a H&R 410/45 Colt single shot shotgun and a bunch of ammo. She thought it was an splitting maul and fishing pole. Should have seen her face when she opened that box.:D

I think a simple wardrobe change might have been easier. :)
Gotta say, though, I like both of your choices!

Ever Give a Gun as a Gift?

Yes, to my now ex-wife. I still have it because when she moved out she left it behind and has never, in five years, inquired about it. S&W 60-4 so I'm guessing she re-gifted that to me?

I recently purchased a female friend of mine a Gen 4 G26 with Pearce grip extensions and some Speer Gold Dots. I think she'll like it :)

Guns have been common gifts in my family as well. My dad gave me my first one, a Remington 514, for my 7th birthday in 1961. I gave my nephew his first Marlin 22 rifle for Christmas when he was 10. I gave my brother a S&W Model 60 for Christmas in 1989. My son and I have given each other several rifles, shotguns and handguns over the years.

In other words, common gifts in our family.

Gave my son a Baby Browning when he was born. My Father a Winchester 94 because he always wanted one. And the woman, well i tell her every gun i buy is for her. Im going to pick up "her" a SCAR 17 tonight. Been in layaway for 2 months will post pics tonight. Unless they make me wait.

When my brother in law graduated dental college in 2006, I bought him a Kimber Pro Carry HD as his graduation gift for a job well done and to protect his new family. He still has it, and I hope he eventually passes it down to his sons.

I've also bought my Dad several pistols, along with a close female friend who was speechless when she opened a Kahr P9 on her birthday. I've never received a gun as a gift, but the sheer satisfaction and thrill of seeing the faces of those who've I've gifted guns is plenty enough for me.

Question to those who have given guns: Do you tend to give accessories (holsters, ammo, spare mags, etc), too, or do you let them take care of it? I've since taken advantage of birthdays and holidays to buy my brother in law quality leather and ammunition for his guns because oddly he won't buy it himself.

I was given guns as a boy as gifts. Later as a adult. After I had kids & had taught them to shoot, they were given there own guns. Other family members have also been given guns as gifts. I have received them also. Always seemed to be a nice &popular family tradition, that brought a lot of joy & respect. Also a lot of good memories of hunts & trips to the range!

"I" got my best friend a gun for his 18th Birthday, it was a Yugo SKS M59/66. This was back in 2008 when they were stacked up covered in Cosmoline in gun stores. He loved the one he shot when he came to the range with me and my father, and, seemed to be a good idea!

I say "I" got it for him, because my father had to buy it since we both turned 18 on the same date...so, wasn't very feasible to buy it myself. Of course, this was cleared through my friends parents haha.

Yes, I have given a few as gifts.
Back in '95 I gave my brother a NIB Winchester M94-94 because I bought it for a song at a gun show, Christmas was just around the corner, and he had always wanted a M94.

I gave my dad a new pump shotgun with a 3" chamber back in '77 for Christmas so that he would quit borrowing mine. ;)

I gave a buddy an old Browning Auto 5 because he wanted one and I happened upon one for a great price. His wife gave it back to me after he died. She simply said, "Russ wanted you to have this." when she handed it to me. I still have it. :)

I gave my nephew a Browning A500R and my brother a Browning Silver a few years ago - just because I wanted to and because my brother's old 11-87 finally wore out. The man shoots a lot of shotgun shells! :what:

I gave my wife my S&W M15 because she said I did. (She shoots it better than I do. What's up with that?) I also gave her a Browning 45/22, also because she shoots it much better than I do. She has small hands and it fits her much better. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :neener:)

My nephew doesn't know it yet, but he has my 6" Python coming in the future. That young man drools every time he sees it. Which is every hunting camp because I bring it along just to tease him with it.

Gave a well worn Colt 1911 Gold Cup to a good friend because I hate chasing the brass and he asked if I would ever part with it. "Sure! It's yours!" I thought he was going to pass out.

My stepson received a Marlin M60 when he was a teenager and years later a S&W M60 for a carry gun. He's asked for my Colt Lightweight Officer's ACP, but that will still be awhile. :scrutiny:

I used to think it was cheaper to give a gun away than it was to buy another safe. I may have to rethink that one....:D

-Marlin Guide Gun in .45/70 for FIL's 50th B-Day

-.22 Crickets for each of two daughters 5th B-Days

& 2 Colt 6920s for each of the above mentioned girls now (almost)
10 and 12 who have Illinois FOID cards and are the lawful owners
of the aforementioned hardware. They still like their crickets, too!

I got a nice 22 about 2 years ago. A older gentleman said had a old gun with out a magazine and it been put up since 1972. I went over and git this old gun case and rifle.

Having a December birthday has exactly one perk. You can request a combo birthday/Christmas present so each year I tend to get a new toy from the mrs. Going the other way is common too. My family had a strange right of passage in that each year at hog killin the newest boys to work the hogs got a new ruger 22 tapered barrel mk1 then mk2 later on. Dad never got his for some reason (grew up poor, may not have been able to afford it) so when I got out of college I found out about this family tradition one day while handling a mint ruger 9shot tapered on a trip with him. He told me on the way home that he is supposed to have one and gave me the rundown on his uncles, cousins, etc and said he might someday buy one but thinks they are too expensive nowadays...that shop was an hour and a half away, and I was working nights at the same factory he worked at on days. That pistol was bought over the phone that afternoon and I drove up and got it the next day. The next weekend was Father's Day....and he sure did smile a lot when he figured out what was in the box.

I gave my cousin a Turk Mauser some years ago. He dry fired it until the firing pin broke and of course I had to fix it.
I hoped that it would feed his passing interest in shooting but it failed. Hopefully he has at least cleaned the thing, somehow I doubt.....

Yep. I gave away a new 10/22 to one person for Christmas and a surplus Swedish Mauser to another for a birthday. Happened about two decades apart.

Edit: I forgot that I also bought my daughter a pink stocked Remington Model 5 a few years ago for Fathers Day :D
