You ever have "one of those days" at the range?

How about myself and my best friend go out to the range with several firearms, including his girlfriends first gun. We got to the range and began shooting. We shot our pistols for a while. We then shot his girlfriends gun, I went first, loaded it and fired a mag. of ammo. He loaded a second mag. full of ammo and the first time he pulled the trigger it went "click." This was due to a broken firing pin, on a pistol you can not get parts for anymore.

We had quite a time explaining what happened to that pistol when we got back to his house. The running joke to this day is that "he broke your gun" while pointing at the other guy.

On another trip I ran into a problem of forgetting to bring staples for the backboard. The range is about 30 minutes from anywhere you can buy staples, and there was no one else at the range. I had to make due with electrical tape, and wood screws.

Yes indeedy I have.

The worst day I can recall was when a jackass in our club shot himself in the thigh while practicing speed draws with his new handgun.

What a god damned nightmare.

A few yrs back I managed a 198x200 at Il State singles and was in a 5-way tie for AA runner-up. Since I had my oldest son with me, I was pretty proud to have him watch the ol' man in an ATA shoot-off. I was still straight somewhere about 1/2 way through the first 25birds when the ol' 870 went **click** when I pulled the trigger.

Long story short, I broke a firing pin spring.Resulting in two mechanical malfunctions that resulted in'lost' targets.....more than enough to put me out.

OH well. Win some, lose some.

I drove an hour to a range once to test some loads.

Wait for a cease fire. Set up my chronograph. Set up my spotting scope. Get my targets labeled and set up.

Hour and a half after I left home, I finally get the rifle out.

Wait.

Where's the bolt?

On my bench at home.

@ kbbaily . By the time we administered first-aid, rang the paramedics and then the clubs president, sat with doofus through the whole ordeal, police turning up with all lights and sirens blaring *major eye roll*, giving statements a lot of us were kinda wishing he had aimed higher.

He lived to tell the tale.

People want to know why I'm a safety freak.
That'd be the reason.

Whoa I have to say witnessing an accidental shooting of a human being would top my worst day at the range by a long shot.

You win.

:(

@Trent.

Don't worry about it Trent. This isn't a competition to see who's had the worst day.

Just one last word about the guy:

He was one of those guys that when you pulled up at the range and you saw his car in the parking lot your first response was..."AWWWW! Crap!". And then you'd sit in your car with the engine running and have an internal debate with yourself whether or not you really wanted to go shooting today.

I'm sure a few of you can relate.

yep. one of my buddies shot himself through the thigh with an ''unloaded'' revolver, he'd just bought used. discovered the hard way the previous owner always kept it loaded.

Double J,

Ah the old no staples to hang targets. I now have an Altoids tin with thumbtacks in truck glove box, truck tool box, and range bag. I also have a box of staples in all 3 locations. It will never happen again! Oh wait, wife took my stapler out of my range bag and didn't put it back. Time to buy 2 more staplers! At least I had the thumbtacks.

Haha I can relate.

I drove to the range back in May to go shooting. In my brand new mustang 5.0!

I get to the range, get set up, realize I'd forgot my targets at home. AGAIN. (This is a bad habit of mine).

You know those paper floormats mechanics use to protect the car's carpet from shop grime? Still had one on my passenger side from when I bought the vehicle.

It has exactly 200 holes in it now.

(Conversation piece for passengers.)

One time I brought my new KelTec P3AT and two .45LC revolvers to the range. KelTec jammed a bunch, one revolver got tied up using CCI shotshells and the other was a Bisley Blackhawk that I was firing some 300gr mastodon loads through and the hammer cut my hand open under recoil and a case got stuck & tied that one up too. Bad day...
