What's your favorite compact 9mm all metal pistol? I don't mean sub-compact, or littler. I mean compact. And please verify if you have owned or shot this pistol in the past or present.

And WHY?

SIG P239 for me, although one can argue that SIG has a funny definition of compact. I carry one most of the time.

CZ-82 by far. I hope to have a CZ-P01 in the near future so maybe that will change my answer.

Springfield Armory EMP has outstanding handling characteristics and accuracy. when Springfield engineered the EMP's "short action", they seem to have addressed the reliability issues inherent to short 9mms based on the .45acp 1911 platform.

the quality and workmanship of the EMP makes it a good value for the money. here's a look at mine compared to a Kahr CW9 for size and a link to my impressions and a range report

Either the CZ PCR or the Makarov (East German Military model)

The PCR is light, with a great capacity and unlike the P0-1 has no light rail which to me is unnecessary on a gun that size.

The Makraov's used to be a great deal $ wise but the mak is simple, rugged and goes bang everytime. Caliber is better than a 380 but not as good as a 9mm luger. Ammo is cheap.

CZ PCR and S&W 3913 (and its variants), in a virtual tie. A slight edge goes to the CZ for holding more ammo while still remaining relatively slim, as well as having a more user-friendly decocking system. Another honorable mention is the Kahr K9.

H&K P7. The P7's overall size is compact, but it has a barrel over 4 inches long and plenty of room for a full three fingers on the grip. The gas-delayed blowback system of operation allows the gun to have a very low bore axis and a fixed barrel yields phenomenal accuracy. The P7 is also one of the safest designs available - the gun will not shoot unless you are squeezing the grip and it is immediately decocked when you release pressure on the grip. The P7 also has a consistent single-action trigger without needing to manipulate a traditional manual safety.

I have a 3913NL and a CS9 in a single stack a 6906 in a double stack. They are very easy to conceal carry and I use the same holsters for all of them.

I'm hoping the S&W 3913 that I'm in the process of buying will be my favorite. ;) I've read many good things about these pistols.

I'm very partial to these two, probably because they are so similar in many ways. Very reliable, 8+1 capacity, striker fired, nice trigger, 4" polygonal barrel, very easy and simple take-down, size and weight almost identical... the HK P7PSP and the Kahr T9.

Sig P228 - own it. Feels (fits) great in my hands. Don't shoot it much anymore as I have gone to the G19 for my current semi-auto needs.

3913 followed by the 6906.

I own a late production 3913 and I carried a couple of issued early production 6906's for several years.

If I couldn't own a 3913 or 6906 I could make do with a P239, if need be.
