You have $1000, what do you buy?

If I had to start all over from scratch?

A used s&w 4" 686 and reloading equipment.

Otherwise, I want a s&w 640 and a nice holster/grip for that and my other two Smith's.

Ammo seems to be the most popular answer, and certainly a prudent choice!

Fill a couple of holes in my collection, probably a Remington 870 HD model and a .357 magnum of some sort. Either that, or pick up a Dan Wesson Pistol Pak finally...

As others have mentioned, I would get the nicest M1 Garand with the most history that I could find for $1,000. Imagine an M1 that was carried ashore at Normandy, one that was carried from Guadalcanal to Japan, or one that landed at Inchon.

That would be pretty dang cool!

Liberty Safe Fatboy.

Going to be getting one soon.

It's very stupid that I don't have one already. Last three purchases total more than the safe costs. *D'oh*

p.s. They are insured though ;)

p.p.s.
One of these bad boys.

64 long guns

Maybe a couple of vintage S&W K frames, like a K-22 and K-38 in excellent condition. Not looking for LNIB, just a decent pair of shooters. Or else a Colt Diamondback in .22LR, blued with a 4" barrel; wouldn't mind if this one was like LNIB.

Have been thinking about this myself since the tax refund is just around the corner---for $1000 give or take:

Colt 6920 or

Stainless Ruger Hawkeye .270 ($600-ish) and Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40 ($400) or

Ruger Mini-14 ($617 at Walmart) and buy back a G19 I sold to a guy at work ($400) or

Said G19 and a Ruger SP101 .22 ($500)

I know we can never have too many firearms, but if you are relatively happy with your collection and it is money you hadn't counted on, I'd buy silver bullion. YMMV

$1000?

While I have needs in regard to firearms...

Put me down for Given's Tactical Conference in Memphis, some other training, and some DVD's and Books related to firearm use, training and similar.

I would not have a problem having to ask to borrow guns and equipment to attend in Memphis, or any other training.

Steve

On further consideration, a nice relodaing setup and the first batch of consumables would be another good use for an extra grand devoted to the shooting sports!

I would shop around for a Ruger Red Label 28 gauge that hasn't been abused too badly.

Yep, impractical, but since you are giving me the $1000....

Establish an NFA trust, then either:

1. Buy a Silencerco Sparrow for my Mk III.

or

2. Buy a complete AR15 lower receiver and file the SBR paperwork (I can always buy an upper later).

Or, if I didn't feel like getting into NFA stuff just yet, buy a Glock 17 and a Savage Mk II (the next two firearms on my personal wish list).

Or get my G26 milled for an RMR.

Or pick up a decent .308 bolt gun with good glass.

Or buy a bunch of ammo for the guns I already have.

Or buy some reloading equipment.

Or...

A rifle for the kid and wife to use, prolly something like a Savage Axis or a Stevens in .243, a Forester Co-Ax press, and I'd spend the remaining $450 or so on components.

saiga 5.45x39
bunch of ammo
cheap .22 bolt action for shooting .22 shorts
