Your carry caliber choice

DOGGONEIT! Hit enter to quicklyl.

It seems that there are just a handful of regulary carry calibers that are choosen by the majority (.38/.357 9mm, 40,45) with a few odds and ends here and there.

What is the reasoning behind your choice? I have carried a 9mm in the past but through reading articles and talking with a couple of LEO friends have since sold the 9 and bought me a "manstopper" .45ACP.

Agian not knocking your choice, just wondering why you choose ??? as your primary carry gun.

I carry .45ACP. Reason, I am more accurate with it than other pistols/calibers that I have shot, I also like the idea of a bigger hole in the BG.

.45 out of a Sig 220, though I wouldn't feel underarmed with any of the "serious" defense calibers.

9mm
I have carried other but seem to come back to the 9mm.
I just plain shoot my 9mm better then anyhing else.
Cheaper to practice, and I like hi-cap too.

Not A Caliber War!!
...YET.
Just wait! It won't take long!

I started on .45 when I began shooting. I like the way it shoots. Therefore, I prefer .45 for carry but I also believe there is marginal difference between it, .40, and 9mm. I (personally) would not carry anything below 9mm unless I had no other options available to me.

The caliber that I carry depends on what gun I can effectively conceal that that is determined by the weather, time of year, where I'm going, what I'm wearing, what I'm going to be doing, etc. That said, I regularily carry 9mm's, .38's, .40S&W's, .45ACP's and sometimes .45 Colt's.

Unfortunately I'm too skinny to carry my favorite weapon for CCW. Unless I can find a retaining system that will hide it on me and I have the funds to purchase I would be much happier if I could carry my .45 ACP. As it is i carry a compact 9mm X 19 in the summer and a .357 magnum revolver in the winter...But .45 ACP would be it...

9mm here, when I first got into guns I was one of those if the caliber don't start with a 4 then it ain't a real caliber, but thru years of use I have ended up at 9mm, for me I shoot it more accurately, follow up shots are much quicker and I have no doubt that as long as I do my part the round will do it's.

I carry a 9mm when I carry my PX4, a .40 when I carry my M&P, a 9x18 when I carry my Russian Makarov and .45 when I carry my 1911:D

Caliber isnt something I really care about, as long as I know I can put the shots where I want them with whatever gun I'm carrying that day. Right now I'm pretty much carrying my PX4 all the time, this past summer all I really carried was my Makarov.

I carry 9mm most of the time just because im addicted to my BHPs. But i carry everything from 9x18, 9mm, .40, and .45. For me it's not really the caliber but what i feel like carrying and where im going that tend to make the choice for me.

I chose .40 S&W because it seemed like the right compromise between the lighter 9mm and the more expenseive .45ACP. I thought I would only have one carry gun. Yes, I realize now I was hopelessly naive. I didn't realize at the time you can't have just one. :) So now I'm looking at a 9mm to complement my .40 S&W.

My carry gun is a Ruger KP45 in .45acp,loaded with 230gr ball in an Uncle Mike's shoulder rig. Enough power, accurate, quick reload time and I'm comfortable with it and I trust it to work.

My choice changes with the season - it gets hot in Texas. In the summer I carry a Glock 33 in .357 Sig - easy to conceal and light weight.

When it gets cooler I'll either carry .45 via a Wilson CQB or .40 S&W in a Glock 22, it really just depends on what I feel like.

Take care,
DFW1911

What SD caliber?

.38 SPL, .44 SPL, .45 COLT in revolvers (sometimes a really small .22 lr), in semis .40S&W, 9x18mm MAK (sometimes a KelTec .380) - I have them, so I carry them, sometimes two, depends on where I'm going and what I can wear. It is nice to have a choice and to change out your regular piece from time to time. If I only had the resources to own one carry piece - I would get a .40 S&W compact - lots of SD ammo levels to choose from and just a tad more effective than 9x19mm. Just got a nice .32 H&R Mag. snubbie, looks like that one will enter the rotation. PRACTICE with whatever you decide to carry - the time, effort and money spent can save your life.
