Your "Dream" Carry Gun

Smith and Wesson revolver
6 shot
Pointability and feel of a Model 19, but having a N frame
Chambered for 44 spcl.
4" barrel
Chamfered cylinders and trigger job
Matte finish---blue it and leave it alone!

1911

5" Bar-Sto bbl chambered in 9X23 Winchester. Fitted properly in the slide, frame, and bushing. Make the muzzle flush with the bushing.

Steel slide (chromoly or stainless) to prevent galling with frame.

Titanium alloy frame.

Good 3.5-4lb trigger.

Good quality tool steel hammer and sear.

Carry bevel on all sharp edges.

Tritium sights most likely Heine Strait 8's.

10 Good quality magazines.

Finish everything in a good water and salt resistant finish like NP3.

I would also like a matching pistol with a 4" bbl and commander sized frame.

Wow, there are some great 1911's listed here, and I would love to own any one of them, but not for daily carry.

My dream carry gun - that I would carry every day - would be more utiltarian, not have a manual safety, be lighter and slimmer.

I will soon be buying it - A Kahr P45, black frame and slide with night sights.

I really like carrying my S&W Model 19, 4" barrel. It feels solid and reassuring on the hip, and the square-butt grip seems to jump into my hand and line up for the first shot all on its own. I would change just a few things:

The balance is almost perfect, but it is just a little bit too forward-weighted. To make it perfect I would somehow remove 2-3 ounces of muzzle weight so it balances a bit further back, like a S&W Model 10.

The Jerry Miculek grips I have on there are pretty good, but they stick out about an inch from the bottom of the frame. I'd prefer a grip with the narrow, rounded feel of the Miculek but which is flush with the frame at the bottom.

Improved modern metallurgy to shore up the K-frame's forcing cone weakness would be nice, too. And while I'm wishing, a high-tech coating to protect that glossy S&W blueing from holster scratches!

I want a high polished Stainless Steel 1911 Gov chambered for 10mm with Crimson Trace wrap arounds, a large beavertail, loop hammer, lowered and flared port, Novak low sights with tritium inserts. NO ambo safety (I am right handed) Stainless 10 rd magazines (atleast 4 of them) and the only cuts/marks I want on the slide are cocking serrations at the rear. No need for front serrations. I don't need checkering any where else on the gun. I don't need names or stuff etched on my slide. Just the serrations on the rear and 10mm on the exposed part of the chamber for safety.

Colt .45

Already got the gun. Colt SAA in .45LC/.45ACP. Someday I would like to have it engraved by the Colt Custom Shop and a set of pre-ban ivory fitted to it.:)

Pipedream, assuming legality and safe return if used lawfully:
A Thompson, with tighter QC.
Other features:
->.50GI chambering
->laser sighting

Oh heck, while we're at it let's add a pistolized Remington 1740 to the wetdream list too...lol

Something like a SIG Sauer P250. May be with slightly shorter trigger pull distance, and straight pull trigger rather than hinged.
Ambidexterous magazine release. Can't think of anyting else. About 5.5 lb VERY smooth trigger.

40S&W caliber.

If you mean me, no--I'm single, but want to be absolutely sure I "bring ENOUGH gun" just in case I should encounter a modern-day Bonnie & Clyde...

And if a 1740 with Dragon's Breath and Screamer in the pipes and Buck & Ball next in the mags isn't "enough gun", I have no idea what is...:what::D

I'm sort of partial to this one.

9x23 Lightweight Commander.

A 3" model 13 or 65, round butt, with pachmayer compact grips and Big Dot tritium front sight; bobbed hammer.

I think I have already. About two months ago I purchased a Kimber UCC II. The only thing I might have done to it is to have the sharp edges rounded a bit...

I already have a full sized Colt 1911 that has been modified a bit...

I'm carrying it now. It's a Walther PPK/S. It's been my go-to carry gun for years and will likely remain so well into the future. It's reliable, it's dependable, it's accurate, and it's easy to conceal. What more can you ask of a handgun?

I think I already have my two. For light clothing weather, it's the ol' P3AT. When I need a jacket, I use my Makarov. I feel comfortable that I'll be very ok with either if some nonsense should hit the fan. Now, if I could figure out how to comfortably carry my Star Mod 30MI without needing periodic re-alignments from a chiropractor....

I've got a few "dream carry guns". This is one of the faves... customized Colt LW Commander, by EGW, with steel feedramp insert, Novak night sights, Ed Brown grip safety, yada yada... oh, and the best part, Ed Brown bobtail mod. Frame refinished in electroless nickel. A dream to carry and to shoot.

Ok...you said dream gun...not sure if this exists:

My dream gun would be a revolver....bigger than a NAA .22mag black widow, but smaller than a SW 642.

I have seen SW models that chamber .22 and .32, but they are practically the same size as a .38 snubbie.

I want something just a tad bigger than a NAA black widow, but is chambered in a more potent round.

Not sure about the reliability of semi-autos at this super small size. (May be a P32, NAA Guardian .32, P3AT)

I would like a 5"-barreled Match Target SIG P229R with a solid stainless steel frame and the DAK trigger system, with both .357 SIG and .40 S&W barrels fitted, tuned for robust reliability more so than accuracy. Rear sight? Bo-Mar or equivalent. Plus, a normal-dimension spare upper unit chambered in .40 S&W, so I could qual with it annually as a duty pistol. While I am a sixgunner at heart, this would be a back-up pistol for big-city police patrol. Not concealed back-up, but a longer-range fighting pistol for the "war" bag, that would share magazines with the P229 in the duty rig. A pistol for a nightmare scenario along the lines of Columbine, North Hollywood, Virginia Tech, that would continue to be a recreational tool after I retire.

SIG did market a P229 Sport, which is not far from the above ideal, but its longer upper unit was chambered for .357 SIG, at least in the examples I have seen. I need .40 for magazine interchangeability at work.

SIG does market a 5" Match Target P220, but it is in .45 ACP, and if I recall correctly, not available with the DAK action.

SIG also markets X-5 variants of the P226, which could possibly be extensively modified to work with P229 magazines, but they seem to be highly tuned and finicky target pistols; I want robust reliability, like a stock pistol.

Assuming this will not happen before I retire, it is more likely that I will have a custom 'smith like Alan Harton build me a custom single action sixgun based on something like a USFA Single Action. Exact specs to be determined later.

Hmmm requires some thought... Oh wait already did that!!!

Mine is pretty mild compared to most on here:
A 3" SP-101 .357 with Hogue grips and a Target Grey finish.
Not at all unobtainable to the average guy (or me) either.
