I know there are some people here who have customized their 1911s to better suit their needs. I'm not talking about production "custom" 1911s, I'm talking about those who started out with a base gun and ended up with a true work of art.

Here is one of mine. It started life as a 5" Colt Gov't Series 80.

Had the barrel and slide cut down to 4.5", bobtail MSH, "golf ball" front strap with a slight flare at the bottom for better retention, thinned the frame under the grip .300", custom cocobolo grips, "titanium" ceramic coating, C&S lock work, Ed Brown slide stop, 24/7 sights, and more that I can't remember at the moment.

Here is my S&W 1911 Commander Sc. Bobtailed, Cobra Coated frame and slide, and protype VZ grips. My favorite pistol. :D

I'll start out with my J.E.Clark Colt 1911.

This Series 70 Colt was built by old man Clark at a time when a gunsmith made parts rather than simply order them.

Ed is working on a second Norinco for me as we speak. I'll post that one when he's done!

I love that golf ball front strap.

Here is my only "custom" gun. It was built by a smith that works at Briley. It has an STI slide with a Browning HP cut and a Caspian NM frame. It is a real accurate gun and slick as a whistle.

Starter pistol: Springfield 1911 "Loaded" in stainless.

C&S did the bulk of the work, including the lockwork (#3.5 pull), the fitted barrel bushing and Dlask magnesium trigger. They throated barrel, polished the feed ramp, and installed the gold bead front sight and Ed Brown (if I recall correctly) mag well/MSH. Robar put NP3 on the frame and its internals and black oxide on the slide. Grips are from Kim Ahrends.

I don't really think it's a custom, more a semi custom, but here's my Colt w/ C&S internals, Ed Brown beavertail & hammer, 1 piece arched MSH/ mag well and Vedeki trigger....oh & CF grips from Carbon Creations

started life as a base kimber custom target II, changed over to wilson extended controls, wolff springs, wilson magwell, Vgrip msh, and fitted rosewood grips, polished the throat and feed ramp, honed all internal parts for a 3.5lb smooth trigger that breaks pretty cleanly, nothing too complicated as I do my own work, and am not comfortable with refinishing any large areas.

I had the work done at Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville. They've build several custom guns for me.

Here is another:

Started life as a S/A "Mil-Spec."

Had frame narrowed .300" under the grips, front strap 20lpi, Kart barrel, Kart bushing, C&S lock work, Ed Brown beavertail, slide stop, had the mag release shortened and counter sunk, slide stop shortened and flushed with slide, custom grip and Melonite QPQ finish.

MilSpec?

Greenfurniture,
Are you sure that blaster didn't start life as a Springfield Armory Loaded model.......just looking at the forward cocking serrations led me to ask:confused:

Jimenia Custom

Ok.. I'll play.

Springfield Stainless Mil Spec Base Gun

This was built up by Eddie Jimenia in Stafford Texas. It was done a little at a time. Schuemann hybrid barrel makes the .45 feel like a 9mm.

Squared trigger guard, checkering, flared magwell, bevel cut on the slide. All the other usual upgrade parts, hammer, bevertail, trigger etc.. Trigger is a crisp 3lb.
