Your favorite "around the house" gun?

Guess it depends on which house. My "city" home I keep a Baer 1911 with Night Sights in the bedside table-with quick access to an M4 (shorty) style AR-15. At the ranch I have the luxury of firearms everywhere: Benelli 12 ga. and 94 Winchester in a rack above the bed, 1911 and/or P-35 on nightstand, AR-10 and Kimber "Montana" (7mmWSM) in rack in "gunroom". Life is good. FWIW, I hate being in the city.

Colt Magnum Carry. Fits well in a robe pocket. (You did say 'around the house')

6 rds 158 gr Federal Hydrashocks.

Dedicated .38spl medium frame revolver.

I prefer 3" RB K frames such as Model 10 or 64.

Nothing wrong with the "snubby" of these either.

Around the house
:

One is going to answer the door, be out in the yard, sitting in a chair ,or if asleep, and BG is over you...

Revolver like I suggest means - too small for a BG to grab, six for sure, not going to go out of battery if a tussle at bad breath distance, can be used weak handed, upside down, makes no difference "port side up or down" - because there is no port, limpwristing not a concern...

...and one does scare the weebie jeebies out of the Postperson, UPS, the neighbors kid...answering the door with a Uber-tack-tickle long gun. One cannot very well shove these Ubers into britches , say "hold this while I sign" or set it down for a 2 yr old to come over and mess with...

Revolver fits in a holster, apron, PJ pocket, bathrobe....

Just my thoughts...Medium frame dedicated .38spls are like Oil lamps and Candles throughout a home/ business -

Very little upkeep, everyone knows how to use one, and though one may not use one often - they always work when called upon.

S&W Mod. 10 4" Heavy Barrell when I dont go any where all day, otherwise, whatever is on me when I get back from where ever it is I had to go. Be safe, Lazyace.

Can't have a pistol (not 21, yet). But 870 HD with 6 #4's in the tube, and 4 on the side. Can't wait to get a pistol!

Springfield Ultra Compact. I can also get to many other pistol's & shotguns in a hurry!

Husker Wins! Colt M1917! Yeah!

..... and here I thought I'd be the first to post that one.:what: I have a Smith 1917 but my Colt 1917 is a better shooter.

Yeah, since I don't have to make the foolish attempt to CONCEAL a huge Colt around my house.... I have my trusty US GI WWI issue Colt M1917 handy around the house. The thing just.... shoots. I actually shot a dragonfly once just for the hell of it. KIA. Man, that thing is smooth....

I have Winchester Silvertip 230gr JHP in it, moon clipped, and a moon clip of CCI shot caps beside it (snakes here - I don't mind, but they really annoy my wife).
and it sits happily in a Bianchi Cyclone (crossdraw) holster.

I have piles of other firearms, and frankly, if something goes bump in the middle of the night outside, I have a 12 guage riotgun with a TruGlo dot sight and #4 buck.... no point in screwing around... but the big iron sitting by my bed is that ugly old Colt. :D

Actually it's two dedicated around the house guns:

A) Glock 17
B) Colt King Cobra

Prefer the 357 for all around all purpose but the 17 provides flashlight and hi-cap.

Also, i tried dropping a javelina that was killing my dogs once...Just coming home from work and had my Glock 27 on me and shot three rounds into it (40 Caliber jhp's), thing just looked at me and took off:eek: following week went into the brush and dropped a large boar with one shot of my K/C:confused: shot placement? don't know but I'm sticking with my 357 for that type of "encounter"

Without a doubt, my S&W .357 Model 65-3 "K" frame. Carry in the Winter. Always close at hand at home. How can you go wrong? Vintage '85..received in '87.

Like trickyasafox said, oftentimes it's what I most recently bought.

I mean, it's part of the process of learning all you can about the sidearm, right?

I'm switching between a 4" XD-45 and a compact Glock 29 10mm in/around my house. Sometimes I still wear my 1911A1 in a O'Rourke leather pancake holster just for nostalgia.

But the G29 is with me 75% of the time.
