Your favorite paper target mods

FWIW I have never understood the use of blaze orange on targets, other than they appear way cool in the store, LOL! A material fact - that many are ignorant of - is that due to the way the rods and cones in our eyes work, they cannot focus on both red/orange and black objects at the same time. Maybe the issue is less with a scope, versus iron or aperture sights.

Don't flame me ... as I learned this in the High Power Master class I attended, sponsored by the CMP.org. I myself have the best results using DIY sighting in targets like this.

Copy paper/and 3/4" black pasters. Space the pasters to fit your cross hairs @ whatever range, then make copies. Use good pasteboard or old corrugated plastic political backers to insure clean bullet holes.

Used to use 1" (@ 100 yds) or 2" (@200 yds) square orange TargDots on copy paper and bracket cross hairs on a corner rather than center hold. My old eyes can get a finer sight picture on corners. When zeroing a rifle, I always cut out the target and keep it in the lid of ammo box so no question as to how the rifle is zeroed.

I use ¾inch black masking tape in the form of crosshairs on a Bright NEON green, pink, or yellow legal sized folder.
This is what I use as a target folder for our "over the log" style open sights black powder matches such as the Alvin York Memorial shoot in Pall Mall, Tennessee. Our club matches that are also in this style.

I like playing cards as targets too.

White freezer wrap with small orange dots and sharpie colored bullet tips works great for longer range testing.

Small, Medium and Large. I buy the large targets at Academy, but why bother with their ammo prices when access to the Internet allows Ammoseek?

:)o_O A friend who retired from the Navy Rifle Team sometimes placed extra red stickers around a bullseye to enlarge it, for a better sight picture with a thick rifle post....etc.:scrutiny:;)

A Standard target is never used by me. I make my own and can even take them to the county range where silhouette targets are not allowed.

It's black bowling pin. Why? because if you held it up to a person it nicely covers the CNS. A reduced size example.
