Your findings on Hornady Garand Data

Loading 30-06 for M1 Garand, still waiting for rifle from CMP. I am using PUBLISHED Hornady data for the Garand, 9th edition. 150gr fmjbt (Everglades) with cannelure. Following case trim and OAL.
I am using military brass and two powders for testing, H4895 and H335.
For those that have loaded using the Hornady data, where did you settle in the powder ranges they provided. H4895 was 43.2(min) thru 46.4(max). H335 was 36.9(min) thru 46.4(max).
I just wanted to see where most people landed so I can narrow down some of the ladder test loads.
I have heard that H4895 is the preferred or runner up, but wanted the H335 as a back up as I use it in my 223.

H4895 46.4gr is the high end for both 150 and 168 gr. I load 168gr SMK at 46gr H4895 for 1.5 MOA. I used 45gr for 155gr SMK, but did not write down the MOA, however, I would not note it if it was ng. The range was 200yds with a 1943 Winchester M1 Garand. I also like Varget very much.

Handloader magazine 1985 gives 48.5gr IMR 4895 as an accuracy load with a 150gr Sierra match bullet in loading for the M1 Garand. NRA in 1986 repeats this recommendation. Both recommend 46.5 gr IMR 4895 for the 168gr Sierra bullet. Perhaps the 46.4gr load given by 25-5 are for the .308 Win/7.62mm cartridge?
I've been using the Handloader/NRA loads with 150 FMJBT Hornadys and 168 Sierra Matchkings since 1998 with good results, no damage and minimum barrel replacements (Just replaced my GI 1945 bbl with a CMP Criterian after 6k rounds of mostly GI Lake City or HXP surplus). The above are also given as a beginning load in the 2nd edition of the Hornady reloading manual.

Used to used IMR 4895 but now I use H4895. Doesn't matter to me though, my load is the same no matter what bullet I put in or which of the two powders I use. I didn't just do that because I thought it would work though, I checked my data first.

I have had excellent results with 46.0gr H4895 under a 150gr M2 bullet. It's not quite as fast as the original military ammo but very accurate in my M1 Garand.

Thanks all, finally got alot of testing done with loads. Ran loads from 43.8 to 45.8. All loads cycled the bolt just fine, but liked how the 44.6 reacted. Although running on a 25yd inside range, will get out to 100yd range in a few weeks to see what it does, bring the chrono with me too. Jealous of the guys who can just walk out the back door and they are already at a 100yd range One of these days, wife and I have talked about land in Idaho/Montana build something to retire and get the heck out of suburbia

Neither of my rifles have read the Hornady manual. I however read most everything available before stuffing cases for my Garands. I had been loading for the ‘06 since 1975 so had plenty of equipment/components on hand.
Hodgdons lists 51.0gr of H4895 as max and is still within the pressure range for the Garands.
However, 48.0gr duplicates the velocity of ball ammo, so that was my target. I started with 45.0 and worked up to as high as 50.0. Quit at 50.0 simply as velocity exceeded my goal, and accuracy was dropping.
Best accuracy with a 150-155gr was with 155 Amax.
Best accuracy with 165-168 was at 46.5 and velocity duplicates Federal GMM.

I now just use 46.5 for all due to simplicity. I only compete with the Garand at 200yds so slight differences in accuracy are unnoticeable. I use the Hornady 150gr FMJ as they are inexpensive and accurate enough,
