Today I just broke my cherry and got my first 1911 :D. It's an RIA 1911-A1 and I got it for $320 ($369 after all is said and done). Well it got me thinking, everyone who owns a 1911 has their story of their first one (kind of like their first love or first car) and I was hoping you wanted to share your "first time" story.

Just picked up a Para Ordnance P10-45 Limited not too long ago, my first 1911 platform (even though its high capacity and 3 inch barrel). Pretty cool little pistol. I eventually want to get a Springfield or Colt, but the Para O will do until then.

Mine was in the case at the gun shop sitting there enticing me. It was a Series 70 in Satin with blue contols and Colt-badged pachmyr signature grips. Haggled a bit, the owner tossed in a rug a spare mag and I gave him $400 out the door. Which would be around '85--lost count of rounds some where after 6500, ago.

My first was a SA Mil-Spec, My second was a RIA 5" FS BI-tone, My third was another RIA 5" FS. (because i like the second better). i guess we have a few things in common. Well, next will be again another RIA, probably the 5" FS Match model or the 6" Ciditel model.

I was 17, it was a Remington Rand. It was wonderfull. Oh if I had just known what I had.

Dad had several as I was growing up. The first one that I could call mine is a Remington Rand with the original issue box. I still have both. Got it from Dad !! Now I have more 1911's than he did.

I owned a Colt Commander in the bad old good old days, (The 80's), that after several trips for warranty repair, local 'smiths, etc., I finally sold due to being unreliable with hardball. This soured me on 1911's for years, but I recently bought a new S&W 1911 to give the platform another chance. So far so good, and part of why I picked S&W was their warranty and customer service.

My first was a RIA that shot very well. The after market sights I had installed (by a Gander Mountain Gunsmith) popped the front sight. It has been with another gunsmith who is trying to locate a front sight that will work with the rear sight.

The second, which I purchased about a month ago, is a Kimber Custom Carry II. That is the gun I shoot at the range and will be in my first competitive shoot this coming Saturday. Hopefully it won't be snowing.

Got this 2/73 and paid $135 retail. Added ivory stocks and S&W sights in 1975.

1979, I bought my first handgun, a .45acp Series 70 Colt. I carried it in Korea and occasionally as a pay officer at Ft. Knox. For a long time, it was my primary self-defense gun. Now it's my bullseye wadcutter gun with a slide mounted dot sight.

In the mid-70s my pals Dad died and left him a bunch of guns. One was a Gold Cup and the other a WW2 era Rem. Rand ---- I got the Rand off him for $250 with 500 rds. of .45acp military ammo.

A year or so later , I used the Rand as a down payment on a Gold Cup ------ SURE with I still had it !!

My first 1911 platform was a Para P16 that I couldn't hate more --- traded it off and never looked back. Then I befriended this old timer during a range session. Let me shoot his Colt flat top and it was true love -- I've had a Colt in my collection ever since

My first 1911 was an RIA Tactical that I bought about a year ago. I loved this gun so much that I pretty much stoped shooting all my other handguns for awhile, I even sold my Taurus 24/7 .40 that I carried and started carrying my 1911. I recently added a Taurus PT1911 to my collection that has been flawless so far. I hope to own a Colt 1911 soon.

pt1911... had to change the grips immediately, but not a singel hiccup in any ammo I have tried.... still one of my favorites.

Nickel Combat Commander

My first 1911 was Colt Combat Commander in satin Nickel and I believe I paid $500 for it in 1992. It was a great gun, there was an elderly 1911 gunsmith who could work magic with 1911's and he installed a full beavertail and decent sights for me, I loved that gun. It was heaven, totally reliable... except for the 1st time I took it apart, not just routine cleaning but almost fully apart. Anyhow, I didn't get the sear engagement right and after I put it back together and went to the range I had a full automatic. Immediately took it to Newt and he fixed it. Later I had to sell that gun :banghead::( for financial reasons.

I am now the proud owner of a Springfield Armory Mil Spec SS and its been great, again totally reliable and no "buts" this time. I highly recommend the SA Mil Spec, its a great gun.

My first gun purchase was a 1911 Delta Gold Cup in 10mm. It was mid-nineties and the gun grabbers were making some noise. They used to piss my Dad off something wicked. I thought I better get something and asked him for some help. I was looking at S&W's in 45's and all the incarnations of the Colts. I didn't know an Officers from a Commander but ended up taking the Gold Cup home. The first few hundred rounds were all the enemic subsonic stuff. My Dad then started to reload for it and then I got to feel what a real gun was like and what it was capable of. I still have it and it will never leave me as long as I'm alive. Since then, I've added a Delta Elite in 10mm, and Mark IV Govt, S&W 1911, and a PC 1911 in 45 ACP. I love them all and everytime I take the Gold Cup to the range, it brings back some fond memories of my Father and I know he's watching from above.

My first was a Combat Commander in 9mm I purchased new in 1977. I think I paid $185 on sale.

Sure wish I had that back.

I bought my first 1911 in 1988. Back then, Colt was about the only game in town and you usually had to go the gunsmith route for upgrades found in most of today's models -- beveled mag well, polished ramp, better than GI sights, etc. Then Colt began adding some enhancements on some of their models including the Combat Elite in .45 ACP. It came on the heels of the 10mm Delta Elite.

Also back then, there was no such thing as a concealed carry license. Thus, for many of us, our handguns were rarely carried and became range queens. I still own mine. The picture below is pretty lousy but I do have a warm place for the Combat Elite, so much so that I'm going to buy the newer Combat Elite as well.

This first picture is with the original wrap-around rubber grips:

This is with replacement wood grips I have on it now:

My first 1911 was an Auto-Ordnance. Not the best 1911 availible, but had a nice trigger and did the job.
Had a couple Colt 1911's, still have a parkerized 1991-A1.
Glock guy here, but every gun guy (or girl) should own at least one 1911!

Colt Lightweight Commander, 1979. Followed by 2 more Colts, both Mk IV Series 70 Gov. Models.

I saw a 1927 Colt manufactured 1911A1 at an antique store that had been brought out the day before I bought it on the spot and have been loving it ever since.
