I just my Yugo Model 57 pistol from SOG today. Sure was a mess covered in Cosmo.

I noted that the Added safety (when pushed up to the safe postion) locks the slide in place, but will still drop the hammer when the trigger is pulled.

I am wondering if the gun will still fire a chambered round with the safety on?

I don't know since the gun needs a good cleaning, before i can try it out.

After taking the gun apart, it looks like it will fire.

Just curious if this normarl? Or is there something wrong with the safety?

I've just ordered two from SOG, but they haven't arrived yet. I'm hoping they won't fire with the safety on!!
Why don't you put a pencil (eraser end closest to the firing pin) in the barrel, cock it and engage the safety. Then pull the trigger. Then let me know if the pencil gets launched out of the barrel. If it does, I think we both might have a problem.:(

I still have it disassembled to clean the grease out. I am going to clean it today and will try the pencil test.

Well i put it back together, but a pencil would not fit. I used a plastic rod from a chamber flag instead.

With the safety on it launched the rod. Either position it didn't matter, it still fired.

As i said in the first post, the only thing i can see the safety doing is locking the slide, but not blocking the pin or hammer.

Now what to do? Is this normal or do i have a something wrong with my gun?

I would be interested to see if your 2 guns are the same way.

I may call SOG tomorrow and ask (if i can get through).

IMO...
The added on external safety on the Tokarev clones are only there to get enough points to be imported into the USA.
The added on external safety are an afterthough, are not 100% effective and should not be relied upon.

My things with the safety is, i see no way for it to block the hammer. Just lock the slide. So my orginal question was it designed only to lock the slide or is something messed up on it, or missing a part?

In theory it also blocks the trigger but IMHO it was done cheaply and is much more dangerous than if they had not fitted one in the first place. Trust the results of your test and never use it, or better yet remove it.

I would say the quality of the addon external safety depends on the individual gun. My Romanian Tokarev's external safety is rock solid, and, properly holstered, is not going to be inadvertently switched off. It solidly blocks the trigger so there is no play in it whatsoever. After handling the gun for several days now, I can honestly say it is adequate. I have drawn it from holster repeatedly, without a single incident that gave me pause for concern about its safety. However, as with most Eastern Bloc guns, and with Century modifications, tolerances vary from one gun to the next and another gun may have the safety installed poorly.

I got to handle my two Yugo M-57's last night, I had to sign the form at the FFL's. I'll be able to bring them home Monday.
The safety totally blocked the trigger on both of them, and felt entirely solid. I will have absolutely no problem with relying on either of them. I would suggest you contact SOG on Monday and ask for an exchange. You clearly got a defective pistol.
I feel your pain about getting through to them. Just keep on dialing till you get a ring instead of a busy signal. It took me about 3 hours of dialing before I got through. Once you get the Hillbilly Muzak, hang on. It took about 1/2 hour before someone picked up the phone when I called.

EDIT: I've got 3 Toks with added on safeties. I wouldn't (and don't) use any of them, I don't trust them. The ones on the Yugo Tok are entirely different, and much more secure. I have no hesitations about relying on them.
