Evening!

Is it possible to replace the folding stock of a Yugo M70 with a fixed stock?

Reason I ask is that there are optic mounting rails that require an AK to have a fixed stock to which the rail mounts. I've got an underfolder and I may be interested in switching it to a fixed stock.

First things first, the optics rail has to be riveted onto the receiver, so I'm not sure how you'd even be able to mount rear optics if you managed to replace the stock.

Second, no you cannot change from an underfolding stock to a fixed stock because they require different rear trunions. If you have the tools to replace the trunion then have at it, but if you had the tools then I doubt that you would be posting on this forum asking whether underfolding stocks could be replaced with fixed stocks.

Sadly migkillertwo is correct. I waned to do the same with my underfold (it's not that comfortable to shoot) and ended up buying a fixed stock Yugo AK. It looked pretty cool having them side by side. :)

You can, if you have the original Russian rail, got a halfway decent POSP 3-9 for not a ton of cash from Eastwave or Kalinka.

You can replace the gas tube with an ultimak and put a red dot up front, or even a scout scope had you a want.

You can wait for the Dog Leg Gen 2 from Texas Weapon Systems, which is about to enter beta testing. It's likely a few months out.

You can wait for the Gen 2 Larue AK Iron Dot, which has been 'a month or two' away for the last year.

Replacing the trunion is possible, and would allow for a Krebs or Dog Leg Gen 1 rail along with a fixed stock, but unless you have some tools available, some knowhow, and want to make a hobby of it buying another AK designed for a fixed stock is probably your best bet.
