I have a chance to buy a Yugo M70 AK. It looks like this.

Anything I should know about them? Anything to look for specifically before buying it.

It wasn't put together by Century, some other place did it.

I have two main questions on them:

1) From what I understand some of the individual parts from AK's that were made in other countries (Romania, Poland, Bulgaria etc) aren't interchangeable.

Is that true?

2) Is the accuracy on most of them any better than other AK's (3 to 6 MOA)?

I've fired a couple Yugo AK's here and there that belonged to friends, but not extensively and I've never owned one.

From what I've read, The Century Yugos are not built by them, which would explain why this is about the only thing from Century not widely critisized. In fact, they seem to be very well spoken of around the web. I have the underfolder version of this rifle, and though i've been wishing I'd gotten the full wood stock version you're looking at, It's lately been growing on me.
I went to a gunshow last weekend expecting to see the wood stock Yugos everywhere like I did at our last one several months earlier, but I only saw 3 underfolders, from seperate vendors, all priced at $700. ( I got mine from Classicarms for $429).
Yes, the Yugos do use some parts not compatible with all other AK's. Why, I don't know, it's a PITA. I'm waiting on a set of wood foregrips coming from a highroad member and was lucky to have found them.
Also, these rifles come with a new, US made barrel, that is NOT chrome lined, if that's important to you. I did some research, and it shouldn't be an issue if you clean and maintain it like you should. Lots of fine rifles out there without chrome bores. This rifle also uses the heavier 1.6 mm. receiver rather than the more common 1.0. Many feel it adds life to the weapon, and enhances accuracy, but from all I've read, this is debatable. But it does make the rifle a little heavier,no biggie, but enough to notice. It also comes standard with the US made Tapco G2 trigger group, which most consider a very good thing.
ANyway, these parts kits have dried up,apparantly, with no more being made. If you're getting a decent deal ( $500 or so) I'd jump on this one.

Ive got a Yugo M70AB2 underfolder and in InterOrdance STG2000C. The Yugos fit and finish are about 5 times better. With WWB x39 the yugo is about a 2 moa (with a red dot) and ~3.5 moa with Wolf MC and S&B. I dont have any experience with other AKs, but to me at least the yugo trumps the STG2000C hands down.

I own one and it’s been excellent, it’s become one of my favorites. I can highly recommend them.

The original Mitchel arms Zastava recievered and built ones are superb, but heavy! I have an underfolder and a regular and an RPK type .308.

No complaints about my M70B1, its been 100% flawless since I bought it about two years ago. I can't ay much about its accuracy, it shoots about as well as my Saiga and Arsenal SLR-95. The fit and finish on the Yugo's seem to be many steps above your typical WASR and it just has a well built solid feel overall.

My M70AB is the Century version, and it's ok. It does not like to feed softpoint rounds however. It will jam on those very frequently, probably about 1 or 2 every mag. It will jam on standard FMJ rounds about once every 5 mags. I do really like the Tapco G2 trigger though, I finally know what it's like to shoot a rifle like this without trigger slap...

The Yugoslavians were cash poor and dirt smart.

The reason that quite a lot of the parts from their M70AB* line won't interchange with modern stamped Kalashnikovs is that when they set up their factories for assembly, they didn't change how they made barrels, handguards, rear blocks, buttstocks, etc from when they were making milled rifles.

All that stuff that doesn't fit a stamped AK, was designed for a milled Yugoslavian AK.

They saved money doing it that way.

my dad has a yugo underfolder and i keep trying to pry it from him, but he dosen't want to let it go. i love that thing, though my mak-90 has the best trigger i have ever felt on an ak and better yet even better than the one on my ar, i love his yugo and i would trade him in a heartbeat the only problem is that my wife got me the mak for xmas one year, so i can't do that.

the Yugos are really, really good choices. Jump on them while you can, because they've dried up alot lately. In February, they were around $450. Now, they are $550-600.

The only things that don't interchange are the buttstock and the handguard. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Yes, get it. I have one with the fixed stock and it's an excellent gun. Much heftier and feels a lot more solid than my WASR. Someone else already said this, but the supply is drying up and these are getting difficult to find, as well as going way up in price so take advantage while you can.

How can you tell if a Yugo M70B1/M70AB2 is made by Century Arms? Is there a logo or some sort of insignia that says it is?

Yes on the bottom of the rifle near mag well.
Its a great AK and worth the money.

I agree, get it while you can. I have an underfolding version of this, and after I ditched the black polymer foregrips for some original teak, and slapped in a bake-lite magazine, it's close to my favorite toy now !!! They are very well spoken of in AK circles, and they're considerably more difficult to find these days.

mine says on the left side of the receiver.

If these are drying up I know of a local shop here in Washington state that has many in stock.
fwiw.

Mine looks just like the one you are looking at...buy it before you can't.

If they disappear here go to Yugoslavia and get some and bring them back to America modify them to Semi-auto only and there you have it you got an original AK and saved hundreds of dollars.

The M70 is the best value in the AKs IMO. But, then I'm biased...

I found it "NIB" locally for $510 total and thought I was lucky.
