Hi a couple of days ago I asked about different AK's but Aim surplus had Yugo M70 underfold, are there worth buying compared to the Hungarian or the Arsenal?

My opinion is that under folders are much better as a collectible than as a shooter. The only folding stock that doesn't effect an AKs shootability is the Russian/Bulgarian sidefolder, which actually works very nice. BSW

The underfolder works, but I'd agree with BSW that it's not the most enjoyable and ergonomic solution to a folding stock design.

As for the Yugo rifles in general, they're somewhat different than other AKs. Heavier weight/thicker receiver, which some people like. Non-chromed barrel (even back when you could import original barrels), so you need to be a bit more careful about cleaning if you're shooting corrosive ammo. The front end furniture is a bit different than other AKs, so if you're inclined to replace it with something else you have to make sure it specifically fits an M70.

The folders aren't my favorite AK's at the range but are very handy when I'm traveling. Since this thread needs a pic of an M70:

The Yugos don't have chrome bores because the country has no native source of this strategic metal. Overall the Yugos are my favorite AK's- especially the RPK.

You will not be wrong picking any of those three. I have (2) NIB wood stocked yugo underfolders. Very well put together. The receivers are heavier than any of my other ak(akm) firearms. I bought them as an investment. An underfolder has valid military applications but for sporting use I cannot justify one. I do not find underfolders comfortable to fire. Handle one and find out if you like the feel or not. Far be it from me to tell anyone what to buy. They used to sell wood buttstocked yugo ak's. While a bit heavier than most other ak variants due to the 50% thicker receiver the yugos are stout even by ak standards. I do wish they had chrome lined bores due to ease of cleaning...minor gripe.
