I just spent a good half hour reading old threads about Mausers, and didn't come up with the answer I'm looking for. I hope someone can help.

I have an M48 Mauser. Looking for another "short rifle" (not a K98) to play around with. I've been seeing ads for both 24/77 and 24/52 Mausers. My recollection is that the 24/47 is more or less the same overall length and barrel length as the M48, but has a straight bolt instead of a bent bolt. What's an M24/52, and how does it compare dimensionally with the M48 and M24/47?

Thanks.

Who has 24/52 rifles for sale?

I have been looking for one for awhile now. All three rifles are the same length.....By "playing around with it" do you mean you are going to make a bubba custom? There are bunches of them in the pawn shops around here.....chris3

No Bubba here. "Playing around" means shooting. I have an M48 and I kind of like that length, but now I'd sort of like to add another "short rifle" Mauser to the family. I was going to just buy another M48 or M48a, keeping one as I got it and shooting the worse of the two, then I decided it doesn't make sense to have two of the same rifle when I could get something similar but a bit different for about the same money.

But I wasn't sure about length. Thanks for the info.

Those "24/x" rifles are reworks of the Czech VZ-24, which is a superb rifle, but many are about worn out. The VZ-24 is a standard length action, unlike the Model 48, which is a short action. The result is that the M48 won't work with many Mauser accessories, like most scope mounts, stocks, etc.
