I just picked up a Yugo SKS, and I'm debating whether or not I should modify it with some aftermarket parts. The length of pull is a little short for me, and I'm not a huge fan of the bayonet and the grenade launcher. If I did change it, I was thinking of adding these guys:

ATI Featherweight Bipod

ATI Monte Carlo Stock

I also want to replace the grenade launcher with a muzzle break, but I'm having trouble finding an aftermarket muzzle break designed for the Yugo SKS. Do you guys have any ideas about where I should look?

More importantly, should I change the weapon at all? I'm kind of torn about it.

Particularly note the discussion on the legalities.

I like the info on this site. . It might make your head spin.

In short, the Yugo version of the SKS with all of its evil features, would be illegal to import if the BATFETUVWXYZ hadn't deemed it a "curio and relic." Making any modification to a C&R gun is likely to take it out of C&R status, and then it must stand on it's own as to whether or not its legal. There are some gray areas (the evil features are not listed in the statutes concerning foreign guns as they were in the AWB, so there can be interpretation on the part of the BATFE), but in short you will either need to make it a "non-import" by changing 10 listed parts to US-made parts, or make it "non-sporting," which may require movement of the grenade launcher as well as the bayonet.

To be on the safe side, I'd leave it like it is.

The GL sort of acts like a muzzle break itself. Plus if you want some fun you can get a grenade adapter and launch stuff from it. I just bought two M1A2 grenade adapters and I will be doing this as soon as I get the chance. Requires special ammo though!

Wait!!!

You can just buy a California model of the 59/66 which by Ca. law has had the grenade launcher converted to a muzzel brake, or go find a M59 which does not have any of the grenade launching extras.
The aftermarket brake-brake and you will end up launching them down range-if your lucky.
Like previously mentioned, there are certain resrictions you need to be wary.
