Yugo vs. WASR

The majority here will say get the Yugo. It is more expensive, and a little nicer.
But, in the end it is still an AK. I'm the kind of guy that likes to get all the "goodies" when I buy something. I don't want to buy a gun and not be able to afford a bunch of mags, nice sling, ammo, scope, case, etc. I want all of it.

Sounds like you are tight on cash. Get the WASR now, while you can, and mags and all the rest. Do not wait. I have watched prices of everything gun related going up up up the last few years. They won't get any cheaper than right now.

The Yugo is a great buy, while the WASR isn't. I'm not going to bash it and say it's a rip off, it's just that you get a very crude rifle for your $380 while for $70 more you get a much nicer one. The WASR still works fine, but someday you might want to sell it and I guarantee you that you'll get back more of your money on the Yugo.

I have a safe half filled with AK's and the Yugo's do appear to be better quality. That said, WASR is my throw on the ATV & go shootin at the airstrip gun. Thousands of rounds thru it with nary a MF. I would buy a YUGO if it was my only one...YMMV:)

I almost bought a WASR... but decided to float the extra $$$ for a Yugo. I have not regretted it for one second. The Yugo is a great rifle and works flawlessly out of the box... the WASR is just ok, they work but may require some effort to fix the canted sights.
If you can, buy a Yugo. If not, make sure you inspect a WASR before buying it... avoid online transactions. You might get a real POS. Some are not too bad though... hence the visual inspection.

Elmerfudd,
I'm not sure where you saw these prices but around here the WASR is about $350, and the Yugo is $525-$560 for new guns. You can generally plan on spending $150-200 more for a Yugo if you buy it locally.

AimSurplus has them for $430.

I was getting ready to get one from there when I found this one

They are $80 more than the WASR at aim, but I think it is $80 well spent.

BTW, my vote is for Yugo as well. :)

Hah, I see, the math doesn't lie.

Well, since I'm in between jobs right now, I'm going to hold out a little longer until I'm finally hired (homeland security is extremely slow). When I do get the job, I guess I'll be going with the Yugo. It sounds like its worth the wait.

My WASR-10 shoots well, but it definitely isnt a pretty rifle, by any means.

Considering that the prices of the WASRs keep climbing, I would suggest putting a little more money down for the better rifle. Go with the Yugo, you definitely won't be disappointed.

I am getting ready to order a bunch from aim, so anyone living in Southern Indiana that needs some shoot me a PM and we could get them all at the same time and save on shipping + buying in bulk.
