Hello All-

Scored on a hell of a nice rifle, remington made the 700SPS Varmint for Cabela's only in a Stainless Edition.. Put a H&S Sporter stock, a Warne tactical scope mount, Burris extreme tactical low rings and a made for Midway only BSA 6-24X44 tactical mil dot scope and now I have one bad sniper machine!!! Its in .308 caliber of course..

Bryan

They matched BassPro, who had it for $550.00 and then that activated Cabelas $150.00 cash card and then I qualified for Remington's $40.00 rebate..

The Stock still cost me 328.00 shipped from Midway :banghead: Stockey's was out of the HS sporter RH short action. It will outshoot my Springfield Natinal Match M1A.. But then its got 4'' of barrel, a lighter trigger.. Still doesn't quite have the sex appeal of my M1A.. I don't know of any animal on this planet that could stand up to that machine.

Here is the absolute best 4-5 shot group I could get out of it.. I am necksizing, using 42.5 grains of Varget and 168 HPBT Hornady match bullets, OAL is 2.814.. Full case prep as well..

Other pic is the springfield on the shooting line.

Nice setup and nice shooting.

I picked up one of those in .223 at Cabela's a while back for a great price, too. I put mine in a Bell & Carlson stock and have a Bushnell 4200 6-24x mildot on top so the stock and scope match my .308 setup. Mine sho about 1.5" groups in the factory stock and is down to 1" groups (5 rounds @ 100yds) in the B&C (no other changes made). Looks like your groups are even better.

Here's mine...

Yes I have heard the Bell and Carlson stocks are right there with H&S and have a better finish.. Wish I had known that before I paid full retail for the H&S.. I noticed your from Texas, what range do you frequent? I am a member of NTSA its just north of Denton.. Its a nice private range.

And FYI my old man did that real tight group, he's an old benchrest shooter, he can read wind and mirage very well..

shooting .223 does save you alot on components, its roughly have the powder charge over .308 and your bullets are 40% less normally.. I have a Model 1 AR-15 OCMP national match service rifle that I should start plinking with..

I shoot in the north Austin area. I used to shoot at Red's Indoor Range, which is nice for up to 100yds and in between work and home. There's a range outside Liberty Hill that has a 1,000 yd line, and that will probably be where I start going now.

The .223 is nice for less expensive practice. My .308 is a Howa 1500 with a TacOps bolt knob and the same Bushnell and B&C stock. If I hadn't already had the Howa, I might've picked up a .308 stainless to go with the .223. The B&C stocks are pretty nice.

AR-15s can be very accurate, too. I recently got my LaRue out to the range fo the first time and shot these groups including zeroing the scope. at 100yds. Any pictures of your AR?

Can't find a pick off hand right now.. It has a A-3 flatop upper with a removable carry handle, the flat top is so much better for mounting optics. I put a timney 3 lb trigger and it really has a nice crisp letoff with hardly any creep. I think maybe for christmas I will get myself a timney trigger for that 700, but the factory one isn't bad, its about 3.5 lbs. I cant get it to adjust any lighter. Do you still have the factory Xmark or have you went aftermarket on your trigger? That's a nice AR-15..

I'm still using the factory trigger. It's not too bad but I will probably swap it some day. The LaRue has a Geisselle SSA trigger, and it's much nicer than most AR triggers. I hear good things about Timney, too.

Excelent rifle, excelent buy. Now step it out there. you show me your 880 yard target and I'll show you mine. My rifle is the same only not stainless.

Hey Blitzen, I notice you live in Sara Palin country, I live in the Dallas megaplex its really hard to find a 880 yd range anywhere within 200 miles.. Even a 600 yd range might be out of the question.. Hats off to you man.

Here's my AR-15.. Its plain jane in comparison ; )

Two biggest states in the union and we have the same problem. Up here it's too many trees and too many mountains, but I found a spot. Good luck!

I really want to thank you guys for this topic. I had been looking for a new rifle for the past month. My first choice was a Remington 700 VS SF II but the price was a bit steep at $1060. After seeing this thread Sunday morning I called Cabellas as soon as they opened. Yes, they had the SPS Stainless in stock and it was on sale. I put it in layaway and will pick it up next weekend. I went for the .22-250 chambering.

The first thing to go will be the stock, I'm thinking Bell & Carlson as my friend just got one for his SPS Varmint for $209.

But thanks for this topic, your timing was amazing.

Congrats Joed. It's fun when timing works out that way, isn't it?

The timing was so perfect on the whole thing that I was amazed. Now I have about a 100 mile ride to go get it though, but I'm not complaining.

I looked at Savage rifles and Remington, couldn't decide until this morning.

Now lets talk aftermarket stocks. Was thinking about a Bell & Carlson Medalist 2958-02. Anyone have experience with B&C?

I have two B&C stocks, one on a Rem 700 .223 and the other on a Howa 1500 .308. The Rem is pictured in one of my earlier posts in this thread. They are great for precision shooting but heavy for hunting on the move.

Picked mine up today in Dundee, MI. Largest gunshop I've ever been it. Had to take a number like a meat department in a grocery store.

Anyway, the price was $614, got $30 off that and a $100 rebate from Remington. No one told me the rifle comes with a hard case, that was a surprise.
