Finally got the new rifle to my range this afternoon and fire formed some brass.

My load was 57 grains of Reloader 19, Hornady cases and an 85 grain B tip.

Accuracy was good, with some three shot groups touching and a 10 shot group in an inch.

I was kinda surprised how dirty the R 19 was. Kinda breaking in the barrel too, so I had some foulers that opened up some groups to an inch or an inch and a half.

Seemed very accurate for fire forming.

Not chronograph-ed, but where do you guys think I should go from here?

57 is max for the regular 25-06, so I was thinking about going up a half grain at a time till I saw pressure signs, or accuracy falls off. Suggestions?

I have shot a .257 Roberts AI for decades but never saw the need to take my .25-06 any "higher" by "improving" it. It's about maximum efficiency as it is. Seems like a waste of powder.

Conrad...enjoy your AI....Having fun is what it's all about!.....P.O. Ackley himself stated that there is no velocity advantage to having an improved case if you don't make use of the added capacity. As a matter of fact velocity (according to one of the articles posted below) will be lower even at max listed charges compared to the parent case. It's when you start using that extra space that you start seeing the velocity gains associated with the improved cartridges. But keep in mind that there is no SAAMI published data for these rounds.....pay close attention as you approach the top end of your loads.

Some people will run improved cartridges just because case stretching is minimized in those chambers....Theoretically improving case life. As for me?....I want the extra speed......that's the whole point for me.

Here's a lot of interesting reading for you......enjoy.

conrad427, I have a chronograph and sometimes working up loads with known data a max load maybe above or below published velocity and same holds true for the Ackley's.

Myself on the Ackley's I like to start below max after case is fire formed and I may chronograph that start load just to see where things are at. I may not check velocity again till I'm finished working up loads.

I'm not going to disagree on what your doing and you got to where your at without asking for any help and lot start at max. I want little more history on my loads. I'm shooting 4 Ackley's and SAAMI Spec 280AI.
