Different Views on Gun Ownership

I think SM hit on a big part of it. Others have provided equally plausible explanations for this. It's a pet peeve of mine, too. Here's my signature from a forum I hang out on which is dedicated to the advancement of women in shooting and shooting sports:

To me, the chauvinist, arrogant, gruff old jerk on the range or behind the gun counter does as much damage to the Second Amendment as Dianne Fienstien. They serve to alienate fully half of the voting base. And I hold them in equal contempt.

I'm not female. And I have to admit my views on this are at least 50% selfish. I want to actively recruit women shooters into the community, because we need the damned votes so very badly. But that's only part of the reason. The equalization other posters have talked about are another factor in my view/position. I'm a big fan of promoting women in self defense all around. From the range to the dojo. I hope each of the males in this thread will examine the various reasons being presented for such an unbalanced female minority in shooting, and do what they can, in their own little way, to correct the situation.

Agreed 100%. Women have as much or more reason to equalize with the psycho's of the world. I love taking female friends to the range with my wife. It is awesome to watch the fear disappear and the realization unfold. It's like, breaking out of the matrix!

Chauvanists are working for the other side.

To BLOODEDSKY:
Testosterone may be a bummer, but lack of it causes, among other things; decrease in hair coverage, less muscle mass, pot bellies, fatigue, man tits, and a lack of willingness to knock heads when it is absolutely necessary and appropriate.

Don't knock testosterone bloodedsky
UNLESS you are willing to forego the equal and opposite of everything that is estrogen. Without it, men would not defend, protect, and meet violence with an equal or overpowering effect when necessary.

while our culture does not teach young men how to handle their juice well, it sure as h*ll hasn't taught the girls either.

I have been trying to get my wife into shooting since we met eight years ago. We have been married for three of those years so she has obviosly been around guns. To this day, I still get the feeling that she is afraid of guns. She just asks like they scare her to death and she does not want anything to do with them. I have taught her muzzle safety, how to load and unload, and she can field strip my Glocks. I recently bought a Ruger MK III thinking the .22 would be good for her to learn how to shoot with. She still says that she does not enjoy going shooting. Is there something that I am not doing or something that I am missing? Are there any women's only clubs in Alabama that I could take her too to let her see that there is nothing to be afraid of?
