My view on gun ownership

Democrat, Republican, it doesn't matter, they are all criminals with different affiliations.

I'm not an extremist, I am conservative, but look no further than our Democratic and Republican led Congress, Presidencies, and government for how screwed up our country and society are now.

There are very, very, very, very, very, very, very few elected federal politicians that have the good of the country as their only priority. Most are there to line their pockets, gain power, get re-elected, and screw the rest of us. If anyone can give me an example of where I have it wrong, I would love to hear it.

Sen. Tom Coburn from Oklahoma is the closest thing I can find to someone that is honest and has the good of the country as his priority, but who knows.

I have learned through this forum and others, as well as interaction with lots of gun owners that the majority of gun owners have their gun rights well down the list of priorities. Just remember that when you don't have the ability to fight back, you will be powerless. That is why it is so important that we don't let anti-gunners get into office, appoint supreme court judges, and pass lousy laws designed to disarm the rest of us.

This is no joke, we are in for an interesting next 4 years.

But sincve I'm not crazy or a convicted felon, why should I have to have a license to exercise a Constitutional right? Or go through a waiting period? Or submit to limits on what guns I can own, how many I can have, and so on?
Nobody said you should. Background checks can be completed in under 15 minutes. Unless you consider that a wait period, what's the problem? I feel that once that's done, carry it where and how you want. I wasn't saying there should be licensing but what's wrong with hanging out a couple minutes to make sure you aren't a felon or found mentally defective by a court of law?

If they're so dangerous, lock them away.
Sure, why not, it's not like prisons and mental hospitals are overcrowded or anything.

@Zoogster - you misunderstand. I have no problem with handguns. I just lean to rifles more.

@Larry E - I have never done that, since I am 17. Now before you all shout "Oh great, the OP is a kid", I can probably understand (to the degree that I can) Waiting to buy something you know is perfectly legal and OK for you to own. I am just saying that if there were NO gun laws then thing may be worse. I don't know for sure, because this is not the case.

In the original post I was only trying to state my views, simplistic as they may be. I was not trying to start an argument or a flame thread. Sorry.

@Vern Humphrey - I don't know enough nor claim to know enough about the individual laws.
If you will not or cannot discuss concrete matters, why start the thread?
But I do not think that not having ANY restrictions is smart.
Coupled with the previous comment, that sounds like a blank check approach. "Agree with me that we should have reasonable gun laws, and then I'll tell you what reasonable means."

So how come I can drive my car -- with my Arkansas drivers license -- when I visit my daughter in New Jersey, but can't carry a gun there with my Arkansas Concealed Handgun License?

How come I need more of a background check to buy or carry a gun than I need to register to vote or cast a ballot?

@Vern Humphrey - what is your problem? Just because I can't state each and every law means I am wrong. Perhaps I should have done some more research, but I didn't. I don't see why you have made it your purpose to try to bring me down.

Just because people don't agree with you doesn't make them wrong

but I do think that there should be some restrictions,

NO RESTRICTIONS AT ALL. 100% RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS IS WHAT'S NEEDED.

I will never be satisfied until people can enter banks with belt fed machine guns off of their shoulders, grenade launchers, etc without any one getting freaked out. What happens is that you create a society in which is ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS to commit horrific crimes in without the perpetrator being killed themselves. No career criminal would EVER operate in such an environment. And those who have nothing to lose and go out on a killing spree will be dealt with quickly, thus reducing casualties. This is the whole point behind arming teachers and students in colleges, for example. Isn't it the goal to save lives? Well then this is how it's done the effective way.

NO human being wants to lose their lives. It is only natural that in my ideal environment human beings will think twice before even committing soft crimes as a result(vandalism, car theft, fighting in public, etc, etc). And thus, reducing the number of victims and perpetrators overall.

What the hell does that have to do with a background check??

How come I need more of a background check to buy or carry a gun than I need to register to vote or cast a ballot?
News flash: felons can't vote, either. (Although Bush's re-election shows that crazy people still can.:D)

Hold your breath. Seriously.

@Vern Humphrey - Casting a ballots doesn't give the potential for someone to get shot when people have aggression issues. Why are you so negative?

@Evil Monkey - are you ok?

Would I be classified as a minor? I'm 20. I think I am intelligent enough to own a firearm.

If you are old enough to die for this great country. You should be old enough to own a gun.

Vincent Vash, See your reaonable gun laws.

I believe it is in the interest of society that you wait 3 days before posting your views/free speech just in case your views may do harm to the greater good....That kind of sucks doesn't it? Are you taking a Gov. / Civics class this semester? Or are you just burping up the koolaide?

@waterhill - as a matter of fact I AM taking a gov/civics class...

@Pure Kustom - gunNoob was pointing out that I cannot vote nor buy a gun.

You may have little interest in Handguns, but I enjoy them.

You may only like target shooting, so do it, but I want to do it with big rifles & small handguns. I want shoot at my target at 600 rounds per minute.

My comprimise would be to only repeal all gun laws back to 1930.

I am sorry but you post really does not support the right to keep & bear arms.

Tell that to the Jews who lived in Germany when people voted for Hitler.
Why are you so negative?
I'm not negative. I'm positive. I support the Constitution, as the Founding Fathers meant it to be.

@Bill2e - I don't care who enjoys handguns or not, personally I don't. that's all I was trying to say.

Look, maybe a mod/admin should just frag this thread. It seems I am making no friends. Sorry to annoy you all.

Vern Humphrey, I am Jewish. And that is such a blatantly extremist post its not even funny. I thought we were talking America. Stop being a troll.

Nah, hang in there, you’re doing fine…

Some need to understand that party affiliation has nothing to do with advocacy of gun/2A rights.

Tell that to the Jews who lived in Germany when people voted for Hitler.
wha?
Maybe you could try to stay up with this conversation rather than repeatedly throwing out statements that are totally irrelevant, k?

Vern Humphrey, I am Jewish. And that is such a blatantly extremist post its not even funny. I thought we were talking America. Stop being a troll.

Now you are starting to look like a troll to me also. Especially pulling the Antisemite crap............... He said nothing bad about your people!!!

@Pure Kustom - how in heck is that Antisemite crap? I stated I was Jewish, and I stated that I thought we were talking about America, not WWII. I fail to see how I am a troll. I was only trying to state my opinion, yet now I have a bunch of angry gun freaks after me. There, that was about as troll as I am going to get. My god, freedom of speech? (yes yes, you get your say also)
