hummm... I carry a Benchmade CQC6 too... I can't seem to find it now though... I had that knife for years and love it. I need to find it.

And yes, Former Army here.

Mark.

Yeah... judging from the gear I would be willing to bet that Phaed is recently prior military too. Nice Benchmade auto btw.

The BG bends down to pick it up and MOTHER**F***%%%%@_U#$_(*&@#$_(*& POW!!! Military Style Execution to the back of the head.

I'm not understanding this logic...If you are planning on executing him, why waste pocket space by carrying a "throw down" wallet, when all you have to do is pry your real wallet out of the hands of the bloody mess off of the ground?:D

Wow, someone who actually carries a Five-SeveN. I've never even heard of someone using one for a CCW before. How do you like it, phaed?

i love it. i know some folks will argue that it's not as good a stopper as some, but i can shoot it much more accurately than my other guns. nice bonuses are how light it is, and high capacity.

HAHA I like that too! But I have a really nice wallet and wouldnt want to accidentally throw it in a puddle or gewy something. No BG is worth that as it is a real inconvenience if that were to happen!

Hey, if it works for you, who am I to argue. Actually, I'm not the type of person who bad mouths other people's choices in carry guns, and I don't put a lot of faith in so-called "stopping power" or "one shot stops" and similar BS. I may be a fan of the 1911 in .45 Auto, but as you can see in my previous post, I carry my "little, weak" .38 snubby more often, which I actually shoot quite well. I'm a firm believer that it's shot placement that matters the most. If you can shoot it better than any other pistol you have, than that is what is important. As long as you're legally carrying a firearm, you're good with me.

I was mainly asking because I've been curious about the Five-seveN for awhile now, but I've never fired one, and I don't know anyone who even has one for me to try out. I may just have to break down and just buy one for myself one of these days.

This is my daily carry while on duty, and pretty much while off duty. Sometimes while off duty, I'll leave the following things at home: building swipe cards (those are the three whited out cards), one of the flashlights, the pepper spray, the extra keys (smaller set), one of the knives, but I often take it all, especially if wearing a jacket or vest to carry and cover it all, and the vest has lots of pockets to carry stuff. I figure if I take my pistol with me, I ought to be as practically ready while off dutry as while on duty. I also routinely carry another thing or two but I will not show them or say what they are here if only because I would be giving away trade secrets that could someday save my life, and no they are not weapons per se, nor anything that is not authorized by my job.

All the best,
Glenn B

L-->R: Knife, keys, phone, backup, lighter, eyedrops, speedloader, wallet, sidearm.

Actually, that's a bit outdated, as my sidearm is a S&W 66, but you get the idea. Never underestimate the importance of a good belt. :)

I just emptied my pockets and this was what came out. Loaded with Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +p JHP.

Once in a while I'll carry my 1911 for fun, but the HK P2000 is much more comfortable and easy to carry.

AND... They would already have a weapon demanding my money or whatever. I am 100% confident that the letter would be on my side of the law barring communist type locations such as CA, IL, OH, NB, OK, or NYC

HUH? Not sure about the other places but OK has a stand your ground law. reasonable person, fear of death or great bodily harm, do what you gotta do.

Here is my hot weather ccw and cold weather ccw. When its too hot to wear a coat I carry a Russian Mak (iwb) and when its cool enough to wear layers I carry a M&P.40.

Oh I sometimes carry an auto knife (Benchmade) not always my Spyderco. Why? Because its leagal where I live to carry automatic knives, so there:neener:

Oops forgot the cell phone in my Mak pic, but that's usually part of my daily carry.

While interesting reading I would be careful about interpreting the above as the law. For example, many cities have laws the further restrict the carrying of knives.

Sigh. Not all States and cities are the same either. Just because you might not be able to carry an auto or assisted knife where you live doesn't mean others can't. If I were to post a pic my completely illegal in California rifle or my completely illegal in NYC hand gun do you ask the same type of question and comments? No didn't think so. Not flaming, just sayin.

Here is my new carry rig a M&P 40c in my own holster and mag carrier.

Then one of these in the opposite side pocket. :)

Its funny you mention questioning how the hell people actually carry all that stuff without some kind of batman belt. I do the same thing with these kinds of threads.

Anyway, as I walk out of the house, I always repeat the same mantra to make sure I've got the basics of every day carry. Wallet. Money. Keys. Gun. Phone. Anything else is extra.

Heres mine, summer version. The gum (polar ice) is an important part and is always with me, I think they put crack in it, or maybe I'm just that orally fixated. :D

Moto Q, Kahr P9 covert, 2oz flip top fox.

Just for kicks, heres the xml home screen on the motoQ I made just last week.

What is a "throw-down" wallet?

I interpret this as a GREAT IDEA.. Think about it. Some BG comes up and demands your wallet. You say "OMG PLEASE DONT HURT ME.. PLEASE >>> PLEASE>>> *insert crying here*" and you throw down your "throw down wallet" that has like a $5 on the top wrapped around newspaper so it looks like a good amount of money.

The BG bends down to pick it up and MOTHER**F***%%%%@_U#$_(*&@#$_(*& POW!!! Military Style Execution to the back of the head.

BOBO YOU SIR ARE BRILLIANT! I am going to get me one today

My personal feelings, based on experiences and observations.

-Too many folks have their gun fight, or moment of being a victim, playing over and over in their minds.

-BGs KNOW, and often know MORE about all the "tricks" and "ploys" victims will pull.

So while one has played their gunfight over and over in their mind, they never saw the the other BGs, only one in front (near front) and as the slightest hint of tossing a wallet - Victim in hit from side/behind.
Hit meaning by blunt instrument, edged instrument, or shot.

The Reality is, one or more BG saw you put money in/ take money out of a wallet in LEFT pocket.
A short while later, he/she nods, crushes out a cigarette, and points LEFT.
You are now a MARK and one or more persons working you have you pegged.
You reach for RIGHT pocket, you are hurt or dead!

There are NO Absolutes, and there are NO Holy Grails.

Yes I have sat a cigarette down with a book of matches on a ledge, and walked away when a voice in the dark said " got a hardroll buddy?".
(hardroll is slang for a Factory cigarette, not one hand-rolled using tobacco and papers).

-BGs study folks, they share information, and they too have "tricks" and "ploys".

Around here they look for clip on knives in pockets, Surefires and even if a person squats to see something on lower shelf.

They "eye" a potential Mark, and sometimes ask if you can reach something on a top shelf at the store. They want to see if you are CCW-ing, or have "gear" under any clothing that *might* be concealment clothing.
Reach up, and sometimes *gear shows* or the person takes "measures" to cover the fact they are CCW-ing.
They may ask a shorter wife, to reach up, her CCW in a purse.

One cannot be in condition yellow all the time.
One cannot have everything figured out, and plans do not always work as trained, practiced or anything.

Last two times I had a gun pointed at me, and trigger pulled, I evaded.
On one, I simply backed up my truck as the guy stood at my hood ...
The other I simply side stepped, quickly, as I just walked in upon a drug deal, in a stairwell. I went through a door leading to exterior, snagged a discarded mop and stuck the handle through handles of door and took off.

Two guys, one girl. One guy with a gun in his hand waving it around...
Second guy reaching into purse of girl, for a gun , so says my gut.

I assure you, I never played these scenes in my mind beforehand.

I was taught to be loose, flexible, not predictable, not programmed , and to think on my feet - quickly.

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

Great post SM. Thats alot of personal experience in there. Not too many good muggers/rapists/gang members work alone... there can always be that sleeper out there. Words of wisdom!

I cant tell you I dont mind the idea of being able to shoot a BG mugger in the back of the head. But its true that there are tons of other variables that can happen.

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
Quick reflexes and alot of practice with point shoot is one of the best ways to prepare for the unknown :D

EDC

Two or more of these,
depending location.

The Benchmade is
always amongst the mix,
and the 642 is there 75% of the time ...

Otherwise, it depends on
whether in base camp or on the trail ...

Just added the 65.
For now, it's only around the base camp.
That will change ...

(Note: this doesn't address the longer tools ...)

[PS: added by edit: I'm in "camp" mode right now,
because I camp a lot in the "outback" this time of year as part of my professional gig.
I'm gearing up now for a month's worth of it in September ...
Hence, the knives. (And that doesn't even include a LOT of stuff in my pack "pockets".
Later, I'll shoot a pic of my "in town" pocket gear.]

Yet mindset - especially awareness -
is more important by an order of magnitude ...
